We are searching for a Freight Specialist to join our growing Transportation Team!

As a Freight Specialist you will be responsible for providing excellent service for our customers for matters related to freight and logistics. You will manage end-to-end transportation solutions inclusive of implementing transportation and shipping projects, ensuring a consistent supply chain operation, facilitating shipment, documentation of processes, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, coordinating product shipments, and overseeing shipment and freight related communications. By ensuring a seamless customer experience with Composites One, supporting our company objectives to further elevate our brand, this role is crucial to the success of the growth of our business and reputation as the leading supplier of composites materials.

How will you impact our organization as a Freight Specialist on a daily basis?

  • Implement end-to-end, full scope, concurrent projects; provide analysis and recommendations for alternative shipping / transportation solutions drawing from baseline transportation knowledge.
  • Coordinate NMFC and Freight Class updates and facilitate refrigerated shipment scheduling/tracking by acting as a liaison with customers.
  • Provide routing and transportation best practices to meet the customer and business delivery expectations for international, inbound, and outbound shipments.

  • Specialize in transportation/freight terminology, process and procedures, effective communication, relationship building, creative solution design, sales, and negotiation techniques.
  • Serve as a liaison with customers, vendors, and government agencies for all sea/ocean & air freight activities.
  • Partner with and support freight forwarders, and other service providers, with a keen focus on establishing and maintaining a strong partnership.
  • Demonstrate a keen attention to detail, multitasking ability and provides effective communication supported by a philosophy of continuous improvement and excellent service to customers and standardization of work.

  • Provide daily updates to manager about the status of all projects and any problems with shipments and inventory.
  • Responsible for all shipment-level communication between Composites One and all customers, carriers, and vendors (i.e., delays, billing, new shipment requests, shipping instructions, etc.)
  • Place and process customer booking requests in accordance with agreed customer requirements and established routing guides.
  • Analyze demand forecasts daily to estimate shipping, storage, and delivery requirements, and uses this information to appropriately communicate, and resource allocation requests.

  • Verify and confirm any additional charges incurred (i.e., driver waiting time, demurrage.)
  • Communicate with the appropriate shipper/forwarder office promptly, which may be overseas or in a different time zone.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a keen sense of urgency in solving problems and getting work done.
  • Able to integrate technical knowledge with sound, practical business judgment.
  • Ability to assess urgency of requests and prioritize appropriately.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise format to non-technical users. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, TMS, and Office 365 is a plus. 
  • SAP experience is preferred. 
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A combination of requisite professional experience and education. 
  • A minimum of 4 years experience in logistics and/or import/export.
  • Willing to travel up to 10%.
