Qualifications
- Proven experience in transportation planning, or logistics
- Strong Knowledge of logistics and supply chain operations
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to build and maintain customer relationships
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in using computer systems including Microsoft Office as well as 3rd party software
- Previous experience in scrap operations a major advantage
Responsibilities
- Stay updated on industry trends and regulations to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvement
- Plan and optimize transportation routes to minimize costs and maximize efficiency
- Monitor and resolve any issues or delays in the transportation process
- This position is responsible for coordinating all facets of the logistics functions to meet the demands and ensure the proper flow of scrap within a high paced scrap yard
- Develop and maintain relationships with carriers, negotiating rates and contracts
- The position involves a very high level of organization, attention to detail and problem-solving skills in a dynamic environment
- Scheduling and routing of internal trucks, owner operators and 3rd party brokers to meet customer, vendor and internal requirements
- Daily coordination with Operations, Scale House, Truck Drivers, Vendors and Customers
- Strategic planning to improve current processes, reduce costs and increase efficiency
- Monitor contracts and provide trucks, railcars and containers to assist operations in fulfillment of orders within terms and timelines
- Source new carriers, negotiate rates, conclude contracts and audit carrier bills
- Process import/export documentation
- Maintain DOT records and complete required DOT filings
