Job Description: Freight Associate
Discount Forklift is opening a NEW location in DFW and we are looking for a Freight logistics Associate to join our team. The Freight Associate understands the transportation process and its interface with business and production processes, warehousing, or shipping. Effective time management is essential, as is critical thinking and the ability to solve complex problems effectively.
Job Responsibilities:
The Freight Associate will coordinate logistic information with the General Manager and Sales Manager, to conform to company needs. Will follow company compliance and completion systems to include quality control and checks and balances. The Freight logistics Associate will develop relationships with transportation companies, the warehouse and production managers to understand their needs as if they are customers. They also build relationships with the freight Associates at customers’ businesses -- those who take delivery of the products -- to understand their requirements. The logistics managers direct, or assist in directing, the allocation of both incoming supplies and outbound, finished products and stay on top of developing transportation technologies to minimize the cost, both in time and cash, to move products. To avoid using brokers and act as our own booking directly with freight companies, the position requires posting freight directly on to truckstop.com and 360freight.com.
Freight Logistics Associates stay in communication with the appropriate people in a company, from the general manager to workers in the distribution facilities. This ensures that his or her strategies work within desired parameters. They also coordinate internal logistics work and build teams among those involved in the in-house movement of supplies, such as warehouse personnel, and with the transportation resources, such as the trucking companies that carry the finished goods.
Skills and Qualifications:
A logistics Associate will be tolerant of stress, detail-oriented and flexible. Flexibility and tolerance of stress is necessary because when products leave the plant, its movement is at the mercy of traffic, weather and road conditions. Transportation requires attention to detail in contracts and transportation requirements, such as pricing discounts or fees. Initiative is essential in logistics, because when things go awry in transportation, the logistics manager needs to take the lead in curing the problem.
