Overview
Formulations Scientist is responsible for the proper formulation of vehicles, test articles, and disease induction materials according to research study protocols.
The schedule is M-F 5am-1pm, with potential for weekend work as needed. The pay of $25-30/hr is dependent upon skills and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensures operational availability of test article formulations at scheduled time of dosing (dosing begins at 6am).
  • Accurate preparation of all vehicles, test articles, and disease induction materials.
  • Follow good record keeping practices and maintain formulation records for all formulated materials.
  • Works to troubleshoot and resolve technical formulation issues.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance within the department.
  • Oversees necessary supply ordering, storage, utilization, and disposition of chemicals and test articles.
  • Creates printed labels for all vehicles and formulations.
  • Maintains accurate formulation schedule in collaboration with study coordinators.
  • Keeps laboratory clean, organized, and stocked with supplies.
  • Cleans and autoclaves dishware and dosing vials.
  • Cleans and maintains formulation equipment.
  • Performs calibration and/or validation for balances and PH meters.
  • Ensures operational availability of test article formulations at scheduled time of dosing.
  • Communicates effectively with study directors, study coordinators, and technicians.
  • Supports and participates in other duties and company initiatives as directed by management.
  • Keeps laboratory clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Use of general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to balances, syringes and needles, centrifuges, pipettes, liquid nitrogen, -80 freezers, incubators, chemical and clean hoods, PPE (lab coat, gloves, face mask or respirator, shoe covers, hair nets, eye protection), autoclaves.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-3 years animal laboratory experience with extensive experience with formulation preparations.
  • Oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal dosing experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and awareness of general laboratory procedures.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge and awareness of sterile techniques.
  • Demonstrates an ability to follow detailed instructions with a sense for scientific method.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates an ability to use a computer software to compile and maintain study data and reports for study records and sample inventory.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and exhibits respect for co-workers, managers, and other employees.
  • Exhibits a basic understanding of GLP, AAALAC, OLAW, USDA, OHS, PHS, The Guide, and IACUC regulations and standards with the ability to apply these practices daily.
  • Exhibits accuracy performing laboratory operations.
  • Exhibits an aptitude for quality, an eye for detail, the ability to follow written instructions and work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Exhibits good written and oral communication skills.
  • Maintains a commitment to adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate and legible lab notebook.
  • Maintains suitable organizational skills.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The pay range of $25-30/hr will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
