Job Summary:

The Formulary Management Pharmacist participates in the development and maintenance of multiple formularies to support lowest net cost strategies and meet regulatory requirements for the SmithRx book of business. This role will collaborate with cross-functional areas to identify and implement interventions to manage cost of healthcare, meet new regulatory requirements, and develop client-specific solutions through formulary and utilization management optimization. The Formulary ManagementPharmacist is responsible for clinical analysis and research activities related to the implementation and ongoing maintenance of formulary and utilization management programs. Supports pipeline management, drug evaluation, and formulary strategy implementation in adjudication.

What you will do:

  • Serves as a clinical and formulary expert for the organization.
  • Reviews new products and formulary strategies clinically and financially with consideration of rebate compliance, market trends and clinical guidelines/ literature.
  • Evaluates drugs and drug classes to produce formulary positioning.
  • Develops utilization management tools to support a clinically sound, low net cost formulary.
  • Analyzes claims data to identify trends and cost savings opportunities.
  • Supports coordination of Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P & T) and drug evaluation activities.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of drug formularies.
  • Strategize and develop client-specific solutions related to formulary and utilization management and develop project plans to ensure appropriate implementation of program requirements.
  • Works closely with operations and implementation teams to execute client needs
  • Supports communications of formulary changes and program updates for internal and external partners.
  • Creates and updates clinical marketing materials.
  • Ensures formulary data is accurate across platforms through testing and quality initiatives.
  • Monitors formulary compliance of regulatory changes for the SmithRx book of business.
  • Other activities as needed to support clinical initiatives.

What you will bring to SmithRx:

  • 2+ years of experience in clinical pharmacy and managed care; or residency-trained in clinical pharmacy and managed care.
  • PharmD degree required.
  • Thorough knowledge of managed care and pharmacy benefit management practices, including utilization management.
  • Familiarity with First DataBank and/or Medispan drug files.
  • Strong project or program management skills.
  • Strong independent judgment, critical and analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Thorough clinical knowledge and credibility regarding therapeutic use of drugs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and deliver in a demanding and constantly changing corporate environment.
  • Advanced level skill and experience with MS Office applications including Access and Excel.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with other functional areas/departments.
