Description
The forest technician supports daily logging operations, timber cruising and purchasing, pole procurement, and reforestation efforts. The primary responsibilities of this job include:
- Tract layout and harvest design
- Aerial photo interpretation
- Contract generation
- Compliance with BMP regulations.
- Managing landowner relations and client expectations
- Interfacing with police juries and utility companies
- Performing basic cruise design and timber cruising
In addition, the job requires skills in the following:
- Pole identification and marking
- Product determination
- Timber marketing
- Knowledge of dendrology
- GPS technology and corrections
- Drone utilization
Job Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- An outstanding safety record in all aspects of previous employment history is crucial.
- Forestry-focused background experience or training through a vocational/technical program is preferred.
- Experience in GIS, logging supervision, and timber cruising are desired skills.
