Job description

Position Information This is a part-time or temporary non-benefited position. Description & Details: The North Dakota Forest Service is currently seeking a Forestry Intern for the 2024 Field Season. The North Dakota Forest Service manages five state forests encompassing 13,945 acres.

The primary goal of the program is to practice sound land stewardship to enhance the forest, grassland and wetland ecosystems found on the state forests. The agency has four campgrounds, four picnic sites, 42 miles of maintained trails, fishing access to for lakes and canoe access to three major rivers to enhance the public use of these lands. The Forestry Intern will assist and learn about all aspects of natural resource and recreational management of these lands.

Applications must be received by December 31, 2023. Location: Bottineau, ND Period of Employment: Spring/Summer season 2024, start and end date negotiable, up to 6 months. Work Schedule: Work hours are generally 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day.

Occasional work on weekends may be required. Advertised Pay: $16.00 per hour. Basic housing will be provided if needed.

Enrolled students may negotiate receiving credits with a major professor in the case of an internship. Minimum Qualifications: Employee may perform varied duties, work under general supervision and may be required to make independent decisions relevant to performance of work tasks. Employee must be able to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Driver's license required. Ability to identify common trees and shrubs of the upper Midwest. Ability to identify North Dakota listed noxious weeds Experience operating lawn equipment, pruning tools, towing trailers, operating utility vehicles preferred.
