Responsibilities
This position is located in the District of Columbia Government, Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS). The incumbent works under the supervision of a Supervisory Chemist of the Forensic Science Laboratory, who defines objectives to be achieved, and coordinates resources. The incumbent performs a variety of operations in a laboratory setting, e.g., basic testing and troubleshooting for non-casework and/or casework samples and instrument maintenance. Supports quality assurance and quality control programs; prepares and maintains detailed records in accordance with laboratory, accreditation, and statutory requirements where applicable; assists with audit preparation and administration; and demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree (chemistry physical sciences, life sciences, biology, or forensic science, that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR combination of education and experience: Coursework equivalent to a major, as shown, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Operational knowledge of at least one of the following: gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), gas chromatography flame ionization detection (GC-FID), liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMS), or Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions.
