Forensic Interviewer/Family Advocate

Your Valued Contributions:
Conducts culturally appropriate and legally defensible forensic interviews with children and adolescents as appropriate within the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Northeast Michigan program. Also, provides victim and family advocacy and support and coordinates the recommended intervention services as appropriate.
  1. Conducts appropriate forensic interviews at the request of law enforcement and/or child protective services.
    1. Conducts pre- and post-interview meetings with appropriate parties, including non-offending parents and CAC Team members.
    2. Collects information regarding cases from appropriate parties prior to the forensic interviews.
    3. Prepares interview recordings and written interview summaries as necessary.
    4. Makes appropriate referrals based on child and family history as necessary.
    5. Informs the CAC Manager and Multidisciplinary Team on best practices, research and updates to forensic interview protocol.
    6. Assists CAC Manager with MDT case review coordination/facilitation.
  2. Provides victim and family advocacy and support within the CAC.
    1. Initiates and maintains contact with victims and families once an interview is scheduled.
    2. Supports victims and families through the process of the program as needed, such as answering questions, accompanying victims and families during investigations and prosecutions, attending the child medical exam, providing case updates, providing court education, and attending count proceedings as needed/requested.
    3. Educate non-offending caregiver(s) about sexual abuse or serious physical abuse and the various systems that may become involved with their family
    4. Provides feedback about victims and families as necessary to appropriate parties, such as Child Protective Services.
    5. Provides victims and families with access to all services recommended by the CAC.
    6. Attend court proceedings with the child and family if requested by the family or the law enforcement officer assigned to work with the family.
    7. Receives referrals and information on all child sexual abuse and physical abuse cases from local law enforcement and the Department of Social Services.
    8. Obtains prosecution outcomes as able and appropriate.
    9. Assists medical providers with forensic medical exams.
    10. Inputs forensic medical exam dictation for transcription and follows process through corrections, obtaining needed signatures and releases to proper organizations.
  3. Reviews and presents cases as necessary upon request.
  4. Responds to subpoenas and testifies on behalf of cases as necessary upon request.
  5. Maintains personal activity reports to track time by funding source and activity.
  6. Assists CAC Manager with policy and procedure protocol development as needed.
  7. Assists CAC Manager with re-accreditation process and implementation to meet NCA Standards.
  8. Maintains all appropriate reports and documentation, including case files, and uses the case tracking system when appropriate.
  9. Provides technical support to the CAC-NEMI and develops reporting processes.
  10. Educates the community and conducts professional trainings on child abuse prevention.
  11. Resource for resiliency.
Required Training & Experience:
  • Possesses a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR
  • Possesses current certification approved by the NCA to complete forensic interviews.
  • Possesses the ability to secure transportation to allow for reliable and timely work attendance, including when business is required to be conducted at sites other than your primary worksite, which may include a personal vehicle, current State of Michigan driver’s license, and valid automobile insurance.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to use Electronic Health Records, case tracking software, and other necessary software successfully.
