Job description

Forensic Interviewer (Float)

The Forensic Interviewer completes recorded interviews of children and vulnerable adults utilizing techniques that adhere to all legal requirements and developmentally appropriate methods. In collaboration with appropriate investigative partners and community-based agencies, the Forensic Interviewer assists clients, families, and multidisciplinary team partners with referrals to available community resources. The Forensic Interviewer gathers information regarding children and families that is relevant to the medical/forensic investigation. The Forensic Interviewer float is responsible for covering interview needs between Lakeshore CAC’s locations as needed. The Forensic Interviewer receives supervision from the executive director.

The Forensic Interviewer (float) will be based out of the Saukville location pending completion of the Sheboygan CAC, at which time the position will be housed at the Sheboygan CAC. The position will be paid hourly with a regular .5 FTE (20 hours/week) schedule, with occasional additional hours to cover absences.

- Conduct in-depth interviews of children and vulnerable adults suspected to be victims and/or witnesses of abuse and/or other crimes, utilizing appropriate interview techniques.

- Document all interviews as required per agency policy.

- Testify in court proceedings, as necessary.

- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.

- Works collaboratively with all Lakeshore CAC team members.

- Educate team members, as needed, regarding child development, effects of abuse, and interviewing methods.

- Responsible for providing coverage between all Lakeshore CAC locations.

- Attend professional conferences and workshops, when appropriate, for professional growth.

- Adherence to the APSAC (American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children) Code of Ethics.

- Other duties as assigned.

Skills required:

- Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, psychology, or related field.

- Minimum of two years professional experience in child abuse investigations.

- Training and experience in forensic interviewing of children preferred.

- Crisis management experience and ability to comfortably work in situations that may be potentially confrontational.

- Significant skills in developing professionally appropriate relationships with children referred for evaluations.

- Ability to work comfortably with families of diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

- Advanced interpersonal skills required to communicate and work effectively with others in a multi-disciplinary team environment and with representatives of outside agencies who possess a wide variety of professional backgrounds and experiences.
