Responsibilities
The CFSRE is seeking an experienced Forensic Chemist to join our team of world-leading toxicologists and chemists. This position is a distinct role in that it combines aspects of academia, research, and casework to advance Forensic Chemistry and its related fields. The Forensic Chemist will work closely with CFSRE’s grants and contracts portfolio, involving the characterization of seized drugs and adulterants. The position may include work related to drug material testing, drug quantitation in pills and powders, profile testing for fentanyl, among other emerging research topics in the area of Forensic Chemistry. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with our partners, spanning both public health and public safety, to make real world impacts.
Qualifications
- Masters’ degree or higher in chemistry, forensic science, or a related field.
- 2-3 years’ experience working as a Forensic Chemist.
- Strong background in analytical chemistry, including experience with chromatography, spectroscopy, microscopy, and other instrumental methods.
- Hands-on experience and knowledge of GC-MS and LC-QQQ-MS are highly preferred.
- Knowledge of forensic laboratory procedures, evidence handling protocols, and chain of custody requirements.
- Experience with research including scientific abstracts/presentations and publications.
- Prior mentoring and/or teaching experience in the field of Forensic Chemistry is preferred.
- Attention to detail and ability to work meticulously to avoid contamination or misinterpretation of evidence.
- Proficiency in scientific data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences.
- Adherence to ethical standards and principles of scientific integrity.
- Certification by a recognized professional organization, such as the American Board of Criminalistics (ABC) or the American Chemical Society (ACS), is preferred.

This is a full-time employment position located at the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE) in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
