About the Position
The Sheriff's Office is seeking a Forensic Autopsy Technician to join their team of professionals!
Under supervision, assists the Forensic Pathologist in the performance of autopsies; maintains facilities and equipment to ensure proper sterilization and disinfection; packages, records, discards, and transports evidentiary material; processes, prepares, and releases bodies of deceased persons for an autopsy examination and final disposition.
This position will also support in the crime lab performing chemical preparations of solid substances including pills, powders, and liquids, urine drugs of abuse screens, and forensic alcohol analysis, as well as assist in researching and implementing methods to perform extractions of urine samples to test for the presence of drugs and other toxic compounds, perform quantitative analysis procedures for various drugs, and assist with chromatographic and spectrophotometric analysis.

The Ideal Candidate
We seek a candidate with familiarity in basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, as well as proficiency in assisting autopsies and maintaining related apparatus. Additionally, the ideal candidate should demonstrate adeptness in executing technical procedures for laboratory specimens, conducting diagnostic analyses under supervision, and utilizing specialized equipment and computer systems for reporting and invoicing purposes. In addition, to be successful in the role, incumbents will need the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, work with the public under highly emotional and stressful situations and follow written and verbal instructions of a technical nature.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
Either A: Two years of college coursework (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) in nursing, mortuary science, anatomy, biology, forensics, or a related field.
Or B: Two years of experience in a morgue, hospital, mortuary, or related facility that includes the handling of human remains.
Licenses and Certificates:
A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid CALIFORNIA driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Pension Benefit and Employee Contribution Rates:
The County's pension is a defined benefit plan that provides a guaranteed monthly pension payment for life based on your time in service, wages, and other factors. The County is the primary contributor to the pension fund, but the health of the pension fund also depends on mandatory employee contributions. Employees are required to pay a percentage of their base pay towards the pension fund, ranging from 5% to 19%. This amount is deducted from your paycheck pre-tax every pay period.
