Job Title: Food & Nutrition Coordinator

Position Overview

This candidate strives to maintain seamless operations within the Spark Academy's kitchen and food service by providing a high quality of innovative early childhood learning programs. This individual must have knowledge of the nutritional needs of children that will nourish and nurture them in their first 2000 days of life.

Reports To: Director of Spark Academy

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Responsible for all aspects of food production and supervision of cafeteria staff in assigned school, keeping within sanitation, food cost, and scheduling guidelines.
  • Full knowledge of proper health and safety methods compliant to CACFP and Health Department standards.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality menus, prepare breakfast, lunch and snacks daily for program enrolled children that align within approved menu guidelines and be served at required scheduled times.
  • Delivery of food to classrooms within the allotted lunch period and maintaining all lunch records for reimbursement purposes.
  • Assumes responsibility for receiving, storing, handling, preparing and serving food according to all state, local and federal government requirements.
  • Obtain budgeting skills for food within monetary allowance provided for all purchases. Excellent communication skills to work with teachers, students, food vendors, and local farmers is required.
  • Works with various software applications, entering and retrieving data as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass required background check and any other requirements set forth by NCDCDEE. Required to be Servsafe certified.
  • Current CPR, Fire Safety and Nutrition training
  • Any additional training required by NCDCDEE and CACFP
  • Passion and interest to learn about food, nutrition, child development, and enrolled children and families, their diverse backgrounds and individual needs (allergies, special needs, preferences, strengths)
  • Experience or desire to learn about gardening and incorporate into meals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and continuously required to stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as milk crate, frozen foods, canned food, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.

Schedule:

  • Part-Time
  • 30 Hours - Monday-Friday

Wage: $16 Hourly = $26,600/year
