Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Food Court General Manager ensures company and University of Maryland standards are maintained and continually improved. Reporting to the Stamp Retail Assistant Director, the Food Court General Manager oversees the overall operations of:
  • Qdoba
  • Subway
  • The Coffee Bar
  • The Dairy
  • Union Pizza
  • A QSR outlet to be determined.

Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Assisting in coaching and developing the team.
  • Creating a differentiated guest experience.
  • Growing sales and maximizing profitability.
  • Creating a culture of professionalism, teamwork, hospitality and outstanding guest service.

There are certain times of the year, including but not limited to the two weeks before and after the start of each semester, Home Football game days, Home Lacrosse game days, Home Basketball game days, Family Weekend, Maryland Day and the All Nighter when Annual Leave may not be used.
Note that these units may have specific uniform and grooming standards to maintain the brand image.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality Management or other related field. Additional experience may be substituted for education.

Experience
  • 3 years of management experience in a restaurant or high-volume food service operation.
  • Demonstrated experience in running great shifts and coaching diverse teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on business or catering needs including early morning, evening, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is an essential position and the incumbent may be required to report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency conditions.

Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Management experience in a Qdoba, Subway, Italian QSR or similar operation.
  • Basic knowledge of food service production principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive positive results.
  • Outstanding Guest Service skills.
  • Experience at a quick casual restaurant.

Additional Certifications:
Required:
Must have or obtain within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment:
  • Current Prince George's Food Service Manager Certification.
  • Maryland State Fire Marshall approved Certification.
  • Crowd Management Certification.
  • TIPS (or equivalent approved Alcoholic Beverage Awareness) Certification.
  • Qdoba, Subway, and Starbucks Manager Certification.

Physical Demands
  • This is an essential position and the incumbent may be required to report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency conditions.
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally with or without reasonable accommodation and stand and walk for up to four hours at a time.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather, humidity and temperature conditions including regularly working between 40 degrees and 90 degrees for extended periods and, from 15 below zero degrees to 40 degrees and from 90 degrees to 110 degrees for short periods of time.
