Job Summary

The UT Health San Antonio/Mays Cancer Center Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR) is seeking a highly motivated, responsible and organized individual to join our core to support the cutting-edge research at UT Health San Antonio. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Flow Cytometry Core Facility Director.

 

Job Duties

1. Perform daily calibration, operation, and maintenance of equipment.

2. Maintain laboratory quality control records, supply inventories, and instrument usage logs.

3. Perform flow cytometric analysis and sorting.

4. Comply with established laboratory safety procedures and other SOPs.

5. Assist with maintaining data backup and core facility computers.

6. Provide training and technical assistance in instrument operation and data analysis using Flow Cytometry analytical software.

7. Assist with scheduling core facility's calendar using iLabs scheduling software.

8. Perform other duties as assigned including ordering of lab supplies, general lab upkeep, disposal of laboratory waste, and must be able to lift 50 pounds.

 

Education

Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline.

 

Experience

-        Excellent organizational skills, computer skills and a good command of the English language, both written and verbal.

-        Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

-        Excellent communication skills and ability to work with others.

-        Must be flexible with hours.

-        Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

-        Basic laboratory skills: dilution calculations, pipetting, ability to understand and follow lab protocols under direct supervision, basic knowledge of lab safety practices.

-        Ability to work independently with good judgement and good organizational and time management skills.

-        Able to keep good lab records.

-        Two (2) years of experience in laboratory activities is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field.

6-12 months experience with Flow Cytometry.

Familiarity with Flow Cytometry applications and analysis software.
