JOB SUMMARY:

Florida Certified Organic Growers and Consumers Inc. (FOG) is looking for a highly motivated, self-directed, and organized individual that will help our non-profit organization carry out events planned for a new grant-funded project, “The Florida Local Food Project”. Our project seeks to increase the availability, consumption and sale of local foods throughout Florida by identifying key local food system actors who may not have been included in previous studies or currently actively involved, have the potential to expand (farmers, farmers markets, restaurants, food entrepreneurs) to connect and build stronger relationships in our food system. Florida Organic Growers, and its partners will work together to facilitate the establishment of a local food network that addresses specific needs and connects farmers selling their locally grown products at farmers markets, restaurants and other local food entrepreneurs.

The Florida Local Food Project Event Planner will be responsible for carrying out all planned events outlined under the Local Food Promotional Program grant narrative which include 3 local food symposiums, 5 virtual trainings, and 3 on-farm events, and 3 local food celebrations to promote and educate people on local food related topics.

The individual should be an excellent communicator, creative, and personable. The individual should have excellent skills in forming community partnerships and can “sell” the initiative and events to potential collaborators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Event planning, design and production while managing all project delivery elements within time limits
  • Provide feedback and periodic reports to stakeholders
  • Organize and manage all event details such as location, promotion, speakers, guests, equipment and supplies, etc.
  • Provide input about collecting quality feedback from partners and attendees
  • Specify staff & volunteer requirements and coordinate their activities
  • Work with marketing and communication to promote and publicize event
  • Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems on the event day

QUALITIFICATIONS and SKILLS:

  • - Excellent time management
  • - Experience coordinating and planning events and focus groups
  • - Experience and ability to build positive and productive relationships with community partners
  • - Ability to manage multiple projects independently
  • - Must be extremely well-organized and attentive to detail
  • - Highly successful at communicating in a team
  • - Knowledge and experience in the Florida agriculture, farmers market, and food entrepreneur community
  • - Ability to creatively solve problems
  • - Must be self-directed and proactive
  • - Experience working within a set budget
  • - Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • - Writing and reporting skills
  • - Experience working on grant projects

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position. A commitment of 20 hours per week working remotely is required. Flexible daily work hours are possible and sometimes required, supervisor and coordinator will discuss approximate schedule to ensure all weekly deliverables are met. $20-24/hour

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:

Remote - anywhere in Florida and must have the ability to travel to be in-person at events.

Physical Activity and Ability:

  • - Work requires sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature.
  • - Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time and talk and hear/ listen throughout the work period.
  • - Must have manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers.
  • - Must be able to walk, stand, and reach with hands and arms to perform work.
  • - Must be able to see at close distance with clear vision at 20 inches or less. And the ability to distinguish colors on a computer screen (review color labels, charts, graphs, etc.).
