The starting pay range for this position begins at $16.75/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements. Reserve: a position working about 20 hours per week (between 40-999 hours per year).

The Estate Floral Staff position supports the planning, execution, installation and strike of historically appropriate displays throughout the seasons, especially Christmas. The position also includes assisting with regular maintenance and care of displays and potted plants in Biltmore House to meet quality standards. Candidate will be assisting the floral designers with both routine and event decorating duties including prepping and placing floral and decor, grooming and watering plants, moving supplies and equipment, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. Exceptional guest service skills expected with interactions with guests and other staff.

Shifts are generally 7:00AM - 3:30PM. Weekend availability is a requirement of this job.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Assist in planning, preparing, creating, installing and striking floral and plant displays for Biltmore House and other areas on the estate. Designs may be silk, dried or fresh.

2. Assist with daily walk-throughs to check, water, groom and care for fresh arrangements and plants.

3. Assist with cleaning, maintenance and organization of department supplies, materials and equipment.

4. Assist with receiving and processing deliveries of fresh flowers, plants or hard-good design materials.

5. Christmas tasks include unwrapping/packing ornaments, decorating/undecorating trees, hanging garlands and wreaths, lighting, placing and maintaining candles etc.

6. Interact professionally and graciously with both guests and coworkers.

7. Responsible for maintenance and safety of displays. Safety also includes ensuring that displays are executed in a way that they do not pose a risk to furniture, surfaces or collection in Biltmore House.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma. Additional education, training, and/or certification(s) strongly preferred. Ideal candidate will have some college in a related field.

2. At least four (4) years of experience in the floral industry or education/experience in a related field.

3. Strong knowledge of the care/maintenance of blooming and tropical plants; ability to diagnose, and troubleshoot issues; familiar with historic and interpretative design styles.

4. Demonstrated commitment to delivery of world class internal/external guest service; proven leadership skills; ability to build/develop/motivate teams.

5. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; conveys information clearly/concisely;

6. Excellent planning, organizational, project/time management skills; prioritizes work, adapts, multi-tasks as needed; keen attention to details with focus on quality and service.

7. Able to quickly acquire knowledge of Biltmore’s history, aesthetics, and brand. 8. Proactive, exercises good judgment; creative, resourceful; problem solves/troubleshoots; demonstrates company values, professionalism; strong ethics.

Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds a regular basis (with assistance).

2. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time (on concrete and brick).

3. Ability to work repetitively cutting wires, pruning and cutting with shears, bow tying, squeezing glue gun trigger, pressing picking machine, watering plants.

4. Full range of motion; ability to kneel, squat, bend, reach overhead/below, crouch, etc.

5. Pushing and maneuvering (with assistance) watering tanks several times a week.

6. Climbing stairs regularly, and climbing ladders and scaffolding.

7. Must have a valid driver's license and be at least 19 years old.
