Applicant will hold or be willing to get a para-educator certification. Experience working with children. 4 yr or 2 yr college experience or paraeducator certification.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with the general supervision of student activities as assigned.
- Assists with basic functional skills as needed which could include toileting, mobility, feeding, dressing,etc.
- Supervise guided or independent practice in the classroom or school community.
- Assists with maintaining an orderly and structured room for maximum learning.
- Provides individual assistance to students.
- Supervise small groups of students as needed.
- Circulate, answering questions, re-teach, reinforce concepts and provide assistance as requested.
- Assist in the delivery of planned behavior interventions (e.g. time out, etc.)
- Helps facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities into general education settings.
- Facilitate student's active participation in cooperative learning groups.
- Utilize specific materials, following training, for small groups of students.
- Attend IEP or comprehensive planning team meeting(s) when invited or directed.
- Implement special systems, following training, to assist students with specific diagnosis (e.g. Autism, Tourettes, etc.)
- Maintain composure and model solution-finding in all situations.
- Operate special equipment as trained and directed (e.g.hearing aids, communication device, etc.)
- Assist students in using portable keyboards, computers, or other devices under direction of the teacher, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, or technology facilitator.
- Assist students in using wheelchair, stander or other mobility devices.
- Transfer, turn, lift or position students as directed by appropriate professional personnel (e.g. nurse, physical therapist).
- Maintains open communication with teacher/administrator.
- Implements lesson plans as directed by the teacher.
- Assists teachers in de-escalation of student behaviors.
- Carries out positive behavior management plans across multiple settings.
- Model, prompt and reinforce appropriate social behaviors throughout day.
- Provides frequent, positive feedback for students.
- Assists teachers in modeling appropriate social skills and behaviors in multiple settings.
- Supervise or assist students at recess.
- Facilitate appropriate social interactions among students.
- Assist arriving and departing students, by meeting busses or supervising entries, exits and grounds as needed.
- Assist teachers with communication with families as directed by the teacher.
- Complete all safety training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
