Based on qualifications, candidates may be hired as Flight Line Specialist, I or II. Salary ranges for the two classifications are as follows:

If hired as Flight Line Specialist i #9539

$ 40,682.72 - $ 59,804.16/Annually

If hired as Flight Line Specialist II #9992

$ 43,327.23 - $ 63,690.43/Annually

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under general supervision, performs all Flight Line services to aircraft owners and operators. The position welcomes customers to the airport/FBO and City, performs a variety of aircraft service operations to include aircraft marshaling, parking, fueling, towing, crew and passenger assistance, Flight Line equipment and fuel truck maintenance and minor repair functions. Rental car positioning and inspection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work is done on a shift schedule that will include weekends and holidays.
  • Safely services and fuels all types of aircraft and airport equipment. Types of aircraft range from small piston aircraft, to large transport category aircraft.
  • Handles, stores, and works with hazardous materials on a daily basis.
  • Operates various GSE equipment to include high voltage GPU's, lavatory service carts, air conditioning carts, etc.
  • Marshals aircraft on arrivals and departures; greets all pilots and passengers. Assist passengers with luggage.
  • Safely tows and positions all types of aircraft to and from hangars. Types of aircraft range from small piston aircraft to large transport category aircraft.
  • Performs regularly scheduled safety checks on GSE and fuel trucks.
  • Performs minor maintenance on airport equipment.
  • Performs custodial duties in the terminal and corporate hangars.
  • Operates hangar cleaning equipment in close proximity to high value aircraft.
  • Unloads fuel transport trucks and records fuel distribution.
  • Loads aircraft fueling trucks and records fuel distribution.
  • Inspects Jet and Avgas fuel for clarity and contaminates; immediately reports the same.
  • Monitors ramp area for Customer security.
  • Obtains and records the differential pressure readings to Flight Line Manager daily.
  • Conducts daily fuel farm and fuel truck inspections
  • Dips tanks and logs results.
  • Actively serves on the rotation of the overnight phone when in use.
  • Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Airport Flight Line Specialist Supervisor, or FBO General Manager.
  • Complies with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND BEHAVIORS

  • Ability to operate various types of aircraft moving equipment with a high degree of skill.
  • Ability to operate two-way radios.
  • Ability to accurately communicate with Air Traffic Control
  • Ability to operate computers and IPADS to accurately record fuelings.
  • Ability to operate deice truck within six months of hire.
  • Familiar with airport rules and regulations.
  • Familiar with USDA APHIS Regulated Garbage regulations, cleaning and disinfection requirements, as well as notification protocols.
  • Familiar with procedures for U.S. Customs flights.
  • Familiar with security Transportation Security Administration procedures for handling DASSP flights.
  • Must be able to effectively contain fuel spills.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills to service the public in a diplomatic manner.
  • The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect.
  • Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers.
  • Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute for the below specified education and experience requirements.


If Assigned to Flight Line Specialist I:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency supplemented with two years of experience in a similar position or two (2) years' experience through in-house training, must be able to qualify for the following: Safe handling of fuel products, knowledge and familiarity of all types of general aviation and corporate aircraft, and knowledge of towing all types of aircraft. Must be able to work shift schedule that will include weekends and holidays.


If Assigned to Flight Line Specialist II:

Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency supplemented with three years of experience in a similar position or three (3) years' experience through in-house training, must be able to qualify for the following: Safe handling of fuel products, knowledge and familiarity of all types of general aviation and corporate aircraft, and knowledge of towing all types of aircraft. Must be able to work shift schedule that will include weekends and holidays.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have valid Class C Texas Driver's License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Tasks involve the ability to communicate with the public and co-worker in person and the telephone. Sitting, reaching with hands and arms, standing, walking, climbing and balancing, with some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to propeller and jet aircraft operations. There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Tasks may require exposure to hazardous materials, strong odors and/or smoke, aircraft exhaust, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions to include rain ice, snow, freezing rain, etc. at all times of day and night Environment that is partially spent where errors can lead to significant physical or mental consequences for self or others.
