Posting Title:Fleet Safety Manager

Reports To: Director of Fleet Management

Location: Sacramento, California (Hybrid)                                        

Salary Range: $100,000 to $120,000

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education and experience. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. THE FLEET MANAGEMENT TEAM

The Fleet Management team oversees all fleet performance and fleet maintenance in order to increase productivity, to ensure compliance with government regulations, and to help operations run smoothly and efficiently. This team is essential to a smooth operating fleet of vehicles, no matter the size.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Fleet Safety Manager will manage our efforts in maintaining a safe and compliant fleet operations environment. The Fleet Safety Manager will play a crucial role in implementing Fleet Safety programs, and procedures to ensure the well-being of our drivers, vehicles, and the public. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in fleet management, safety regulations including DOT, and a proven track record of fostering a safety-conscious culture. In this role, you will support the development of an annual review, implement driver safety orientation and ongoing training, as well as responsible for making any appropriate recommendations to the Vehicle Review Committee.

  • Coordinate driver supervision: Monitoring of unsafe driving (MVR, complaints, accidents, telematics events, etc.), as well as driver incentives and recognition. Approve employee use of their own vehicles and monitoring requirements.
  • Vehicle maintenance: Ensure inspection and maintenance of vehicles. Manage vehicle recalls. Ensure proper registering and licensing of vehicles.  Identify safety options with new vehicles and make the appropriate recommendation(s) to the Vehicle Review Committee.
  • Accident management: Reporting, investigation and corrective action, and causal trending.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal safety regulations.
  • If DOT regulated, review and handle roadside violation reports and manage CEI's FMCSA compliance.

Scope: Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).

Complexity: Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Acts as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities.

Discretion: Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.

Interaction: Frequently interacts with vehicle review committee, subordinate supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers and the company. Often must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

Supervision: Manages, perhaps through subordinate supervisors, the coordination of the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing. In some instances this manager may be responsible for a functional area and not have any subordinate employees.


ABOUT YOU
You have experience managing or coordinating safety for fleet, logistics, transportation, delivery, dispatch, warehouse, distribution, drivers or equivalent. You have previous experience with fleet vendors and leasing companies, or vendor administration and negotiations. You have a growth-mindset that is focused on improving fleet, facilities, or operations sustainability. Lastly, you have the bring organizational, writing, and detailed-oriented skills that will ensure your success in this role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: BA/BS required.

Licensure/Certifications: None required.

Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent experience. 2 years of experience managing professional staff.

Driving Record: Valid state-issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
