Fleet Mechanic

We are now hiring for a full-time Fleet Mechanic in Upper Marlboro, MD.

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for providing timely, quality and cost-effective repairs and maintenance on our fleet of FedEx delivery trucks. This technician is responsible for preventative and direct maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications and repairs for a mix of 30 vehicles ranging from P500 to P1000 size. Your own tools are required for this position.

The schedule for this position will be full-time and paid as a salary, but hours will vary depending on the needs of the fleet (i.e. evening or early morning shift to change oil in several trucks at once). This job will require being on-call during business hours.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive maintenance with engine/transmissions, tires, belts, hoses, brakes, rotors, oil changes, etc. and diagnose and complete larger repairs as necessary
• Perform minor to major mechanical and body repairs on trucks
• Repair and troubleshoot electrical problems with VEDR cameras and other equipment
• Collaborate with management to maintain parts inventory, and communicate needs to appropriate personnel
• Communicate with management and third-party mechanics to schedule and complete repairs covered under warranty when possible or needed (mainly for bulk trucks)
• Respond to occasional mobile calls to diagnose or repair broken down trucks roadside
• Maintain accurate records of repairs performed on all vehicles
• Complete other assigned duties as required

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience performing maintenance on medium to large trucks necessary OR vehicle maintenance certification from an accredited vocational or trade school OR completion of the FedEx Freight, Inc. Apprentice Program with satisfactory performance
• Ability to safely operate vehicles equipped with manual and automatic transmission
• Ability to safely mount, dismount and repair tires
• Proficiency in engine and transmission work on gas engines preferred
• Proficiency in maintenance programs and diagnostic systems strongly preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience working with DEF systems is a plus
• Must be able to pass a Drug Test and background check (Paid by Employer)
• Must be able to work independently and perform work during flexible hours
• Must not have any felonies / violent misdemeanors or drug related misdemeanors in the last 10 years
