Principal Responsibilities:

Overview: The Fitness Center Employee is responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience, maintaining safety standards, and upholding cleanliness within the Fitness Center and the York JCC. This role involves assisting members with fitness equipment, fostering professional relationships, and providing program guidance. The Fitness Center Employee reports directly to the Fitness Director/Fitness Center Coordinator.

General Responsibilities:

• Greet members and guests warmly, assisting them with inquiries, membership sign-ups, and other related tasks
• Answer phone calls and respond to emails promptly, provided accurate information and assistance
• Handle member concerns, feedback, and complaints professionally and effectively, escalating issues to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the Fitness Center reception area, including the front desk, and Studio 1,2 and 3 in a clean and orderly fashion by racking dumbbells, barbells, and plates; cleaning fitness center are (floors, closets, machines etc) and picking up trash.
• Monitor equipment usage and report any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel promptly.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and emergency procedures, providing assistance as needed during emergencies.

Performance Expectations:

• Accurately record work hours through our HRIS, Paylocity by clocking in and out before and after each shift and if needed through other tracking tools provided by the York JCC.
• Familiarize oneself with and adhere to all emergency policies and procedures.
• Stay updated with York JCC and Fitness Department communications and attend scheduled meetings.
• Engage with members throughout the fitness center, building rapport and providing information about programming.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization within the fitness area by tidying equipment, cleaning surfaces, and disposing of trash.
• Assist trainers and group fitness instructors with equipment setup and charging iPads.
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of fitness equipment to educate members.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Fitness Director/Fitness Center Coordinator.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum age requirement of 16 years.
• Current CPR/AED certification, with First Aid certification preferred.
• Flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and the ability to pick up shifts as needed.
• Prior sales experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of gym equipment operation.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting (minimum of 40lbs), and repetitive movements.
• Comfortable with continuous exposure to moderate noise levels.
