Job description

This employee will administer all programs and activities of Freshwater Fisheries Region 4 with inter- and intra-agency resource interest groups to insure the effective management of the state's natural resources and the agency's material resources.
Job Duties include:
Plans, directs and coordinates the freshwater fisheries management program activities and personnel in the Region. Acts as the chief administrative leader for the Region's Freshwater Fisheries Section and insures that all reports are submitted as required, equipment is maintained and inventoried, budgets are submitted, expenditures are monitored, federal aid documents are prepared, programs meet the requirements of funding entities, DNR policies and procedures are followed and appropriate state and federal laws are obeyed. Attends Coordinator meetings and conference calls. Coordinates and represents the Region's freshwater programs in liaison and partnership with local, state and federal governments, non-governmental organizations, the general public and legislative interests. Publishes results of project activities and conducts outreach activities to communicate section and agency program results and needs to the public with emphasis on sportfishing organizations. Represents and administers the Freshwater Fisheries Section in Region 4 to insure that there is coordination between divisions of each program's activities and needs. Communicates information as required and offers assistance as warranted. Coordinates the Region's freshwater fisheries activities with other Section programs to insure the effective and efficient use of program assets. Manages and oversees the maintenance and operation of the Dennis Wildlife Center's main office and dormitory Including repairs to facilities and plans for future operations. In conjunction with the administrative assistant Insure that the facilities are safe and that infrasturcture, including phones and computer systems are operating appropriately for all staff. Manage budgets and administrative paperwork to ensure proper operation of the facilities.A master's degree in biology, chemistry or wildlife management and four (4) years of experience in fish, wildlife or marine management or research programs; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and six (6) years of experience in fish wildlife or marine management or research programs.Experience with administration and personnel management skills. Knowledge of grant programs. Strong statistical skills. Ability to operate motor boats and familiarization with aquatic resources sampling tools (nets, electrofishing gear, water quality meters and test kits) is needed. Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of government processes. Ability to relate to numerous constituency groups to resolve conflicting issues. Ability to participate in overnight travel.
AFS certification and pesticide applicators licenses preferred. Employment Type: FTE - Full-Time
