The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of the University to provide services and develop and enhance programs that are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSU Dominguez Hills is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Established in 1960, CSU Dominguez Hills is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system.
About the Position
Under general supervision of the Executive Director or the Office of Educational Partnerships at CSUDH, the First Year Student Success Coordinator will provide programs and services offered to First Year Students matriculating to CSUDH from partner GEAR UP and TRIO programs. The incumbent will serve as a resource for students and provide retention services such as personal, academic, financial and success counseling; as well, developments activities related to "Summer Bridge" programming. The First-year Success Coordinator has full professional responsibility for assisting students to resolve problem(s) that affects their ability to be successful in their educational pursuits. The First-year success advisor will form strong partnerships with Office of First- and Second-Year Experience, the Educational Opportunity Program, Student Support Services and Student Success Centers in all academic colleges in support of "Go Far Together" strategic plan.
The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, be self-initiating, build working relationships with the appropriate campus student support services and other resources.
Position Information
Employment at Toro Auxiliary Partners is on an at-will basis and can be terminated by either an employee or Toro Auxiliary Partners at any time with or without cause or advance notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted.
This is a Full-time, non-exempt, regular benefited position employer-sponsored health, dental vision, life insurance, retirement program and vacation pay.
Pay Range: $25.00-26.80 hourly
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish collaborative working relationships with Educational Opportunity Program, Student Support Services, Office of First- and Second-Year Experience, Student Success Centers, Career Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Financial Aid, Student Life and ASI other campus resources that support student development and success.
• Based on researched best practices and also best complements existing campus bridge programming develop & facilitate programming in effort to minimize "summer melt" for incoming First Year Students.
• Develop and implement comprehensive activities that facilitate retention and Student Success. Workshops, guest speakers and other retention activities to systematically counsel and motivate students' retention.
• Provide financial/economic literacy assistance and post-secondary financial planning.
• Develop or identify proactive mental and emotional wellness resources (Positive Psychology, Mindfulness, self-compassion) to help students combat personal & emotional obstacles that may affect academic success.
• Serve as a formal referral specialist to facilitate solutions to various student needs.
• Monitor academic progress and coordinate with campus early alert programs .Meet at least once a semester with each identified student to provide appropriate academic and personal support.
• Participate in designated Campus and OEP work groups and/or campus committees as determined by the OEP Executive Director.
• Work with OEP Executive Director to develop system to track student participation in programming and implement the evaluation and assessment of the programming effectiveness. Use the data to produce an end of the academic year report on the student experience and academic performance.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelors degree required. Master's degree preferred.
• Ability to successfully facilitate large group discussion/presentations.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally.
• Ability to work independently, set timelines and work plans.
• Knowledge of computer applications and technology related to educational advising functions.
• Knowledge of California State University admission and course pattern requirements.
Experience: a minimum of two years' experience in each of the following areas:
• Working with college/university students of diverse: academic levels, socioeconomic, disability, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and various levels of academic preparedness. levels. of college/university students.
• Experience developing strategies and interventions to enhance Student Success.
• Facilitating groups and workshops that support Student Success.
• Experience working in a university environment advising students in individual and group settings.
• Experience building meaningful collaborative working relationships campus partners.
