LCSW required
The purpose of the First Responder Prevention Program is to 1) increase access to peer support and mental health awareness and intervention training for FIRST RESPONDERs and their families; 2) reduce the incidence of deaths by suicide among the FIRST RESPONDER community by supporting evidence-based interventions, specifically lethal means safety and related training and supports. The First Responder Program Coordinator will supervise a team of two Education Specialists and will be the primary point of contact for the program for the funder and stakeholders. They will oversee and ensure all of the program goals and outcomes are met.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement all the administrative responsibilities for the program including reporting, ordering supplies, securing MOU's and partnership agreements, monitoring program outcomes and budgets, and ensuring proper documentation of services provided for audits.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with program partners specifically in organizations that employ and/or support FIRST RESPONDERs and their families.
  • Is the primary point person for the funder and maintains a good relationship with them by promptly responding to emails, attending required meetings and training, and completing quarterly reports.
  • Organizes and facilitates regular team meetings and individual supervision for program staff.
  • Responsible for the hiring of staff and annual evaluation of staff performance.
  • Work with the staff to ensure they are trained in the appropriate evidence-based curricula, develop schedules and assignments of training and recruitment activities, and monitor outcomes of outreach provided.
  • Develops and implements reports, presentations, and advertising for the program.
  • Collaborates with the Manager of Behavioral Health Programs to assure staff's attainment of the program's quantitative goals.
  • Collaborates with the Evaluation Department and submits all statistical reports as needed.
  • With the team Implement free Mental Health First Aid Training, Lethal Means Safety Training, Embedded Peer Support Training, and additional evidence-based curricula as directed by the funder.
  • Conduct outreach to market and coordinate training within the First Responder communities targeting FIRST RESPONDERs themselves, their friends and families, retired FIRST RESPONDERs, and other stakeholders who interact with First Responders such as union representatives
  • Provide Embedded Peer Support Training and other strategies to decrease stigma against people with mental health illnesses and substance use problems while increasing knowledge of suicide risk factors and warning signs
  • Provide tools for trainees to help with early identification, intervention, and referral to appropriate professional help.
  • Collect data on activities conducted and submit data entry and maintenance of in-person and virtual training or information sessions on recognizing and responding to signs and symptoms of mental health challenges.
  • Assist in the development of promotional and marketing materials to recruit trainees and increase broader community awareness of the need for suicide prevention among FIRST RESPONDERs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education:
  • Master's degree in social work or related field (MSW or MSSA) from an accredited school.
  • A combination of education, BA/BS minimum, and 5 years of supervisory experience will be considered
  • LCSW/LCPC preferred

Experience:
  • Experience working with First Responders preferred
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience providing adult education.
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.

Other:
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.

Key Competencies:
  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to transport oneself to different locations for outreach and training.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
  • Frequently moves in outdoor weather conditions
