Firefighter/EMT-B

The Town of Acton is seeking qualified applicants for the position for Firefighter/EMT-B, reporting to the Acton Fire Chief. This is a 42 hour/week position responsible for fire suppression, fire prevention and education, emergency medical care, rescue and other emergency and non-emergency duties.

General Duties and Responsibilities: Responds to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other calls to protect life and property; participates in fire prevention, training, and station and equipment maintenance activities; receives general supervision from higher level supervisory and management staff. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Experience as a Firefighter/EMT-B and/or Fire Academy level training. Certification as Firefighter I/II, CPR, Driver’s License and minimum of GED.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Candidates must be able to pass the Massachusetts Physical Ability Test (PAT) for Firefighters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88L_zlDG-M4). Special Requirements: Firefighting and rescue techniques, methods and practices. Emergency medical procedures and patient assessment techniques. Arithmetic computations and formulas. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation. Computer applications involving word processing, data entry and/or standard report generation. Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, often in situations which may be stressful.

Pay Rate: Starting salary $63,646.18 annually, plus a 6% EMT-B Stipend
