We're hiring a Firefighter Lead to Live. Work. Explore. at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon!

 

Job Summary:

To provide security, firefighting and first responder services for Xanterra South Rim and supervise Firefighters and Security Officers.  

 

The Details:Position Type: Full-Time, Year-RoundPay: $20.10 per hourSchedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and advise firefighters and security officers with assistance from Security Lieutenant for assigned shift.
  • Ensure that assigned staff is adhering to the Risk Management and F&S Policies and Procedures.
  • Respond to fire calls for the Grand Canyon Village, investigate and report the incident.
  • Under the direction of the Captain, will be responsible for training Firefighters.  
  • Will assist in reviewing all Officers' reports for clarity, accuracy, completeness and ensure the reports are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Will ensure that monthly checks are completed for company owned portable fire extinguishers and recorded.
  • Respond to medical calls for Xanterra properties. 
  • Participate in fire training sessions and be on call for Xanterra firefighter duties, and fire department callouts.
  • Assist National Park Service Law Enforcement and Fire Departments on scene, and follow instructions/directives given by incident commander.     
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with National Park Service Law Enforcement and Fire Departments.
  • Resolve situations within your control and within guidelines established by Risk Management, the Fire Department and National Park Service Law Enforcement.
  • Enroll, attend and successfully complete ongoing training classes as determined by the Fire & Security Captain.
  • Adhere to all Risk Management, safety and environmental policies.
  • May be called upon to assist in the handling, storage and/or disposal of hazardous materials
  • Must maintain Fire & EMS certifications and refreshers as needed.
  • Complete an annual Wildland Pack Test to maintain Structural/Wildland eligibility (45 pounds, 3 miles in less than 46 minutes). 
  • Assist Firefighters and Security Officers as needed.
  • Must successfully obtain certifications and perform BAT and Urinalysis testing on employees per company policy as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Qualifications
  • Arizona State Structural Firefighter I/II (Ifsac or ProBoard), HazMat First Responder, and National Registry EMS (EMT-B or First Responder).  Ability to meet all medical and physical agility requirements for firefighters in accordance with the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001.
  • Wildland (S-130/S-190) preferred, or complete within one year of hire.
  • Firefighter I Instructor, Fire Officer I [or equivalent Officer class]. Certifications should be obtained within one year of promotion to Lead.
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 must be completed within six months of hire.
  • ICS 300, 400 must be completed within eighteen months of hire
  • Successfully complete Engineer/Operator certification within eighteen months of hire.
  • Must have working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and internet browsers.
  • 2 to 3 years of management experience in the fire service or a similar job field.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Driver's License and comply with the company Driver Safety Program.
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age at time of hire.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and problem solving skills; plus ability to interact effectively with guests, employees and other designated officials.
  • Ability to calmly deal with medical, fire, security or safety situations.
  • Working knowledge of radio communications.
