Position Description
St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Fire Plans Review Supervisor for our well-established Fire-Rescue Department whose headquarters is located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The St. Johns County Fire Marshals Plan Review section is responsible for review of all new construction, along with reconstruction projects, as well as fire suppression plans for St. Johns County. This fast paced office handles over 3000 plan reviews per year. This office administers and coordinates permit status management reporting, reviews engineering drawings, and construction management.
Employees work in a team oriented environment in a variety of divisions with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to protect the residents and visitors of our county.
The newly selected Fire Plans Supervisor will oversee the customer service and will manage the intake and review of all Fire Related permits and plans.
Examples of Duties
The ideal Fire Plans Review Supervisor candidate must possess St. Johns County's core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
  • Oversees the review of submitted construction documents for compliance with codes, standards and ordinances.
  • Reviews existing work processes, work relationships, space utilization, equipment needs, and computer operations to promote effective operations; develops and implements approved organizational and administrative changes.
  • Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines assigned personnel.
  • Facilitates the resolution of customer issues and complaints; resolves issues referred by the Board of County Commissioners.
  • Represents the department in regional and statewide regulatory issues and in public outreach regarding the State Fire Code and Plan review submittal issues.
Typical Qualifications
Candidates for the Fire Plan Review Supervisor are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related course of study to the occupational field.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the complex principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with requiring five to eight years of related, progressively responsible, experience.
  • Must meet current job requirements as set forth in Florida Statue #633, Division of State Fire Marshal Administrative Rules 4A-37.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
