Rate of Pay: $63,876.80 - $65,145.60 Apply Now Job Summary The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Fire Marshal within the Fire Services department. This position is responsible for the management and direction of the Fire Prevention Division and reports to the Deputy Fire Chief.

The typical work schedule is 8am to 5pm weekdays plus on-call and after-hours duty. Major Job Duties Sets and evaluates fire prevention goals to meet established department, state, and national standards. Conducts evaluations of assigned personnel.

Plans, organizes, conducts, and supervises fire prevention, inspections, investigations, and public safety education operations and maintains accurate records. Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of the fire prevention division activities to all authorities / agencies that require such reports or as requested. Reviews building plans and inspects buildings for fire code compliance prior to the issuance of building licenses or permits.

Directs changes to comply with local, state, and federal law and fire codes. Directs building owners and occupants to remedy fire code violations and completes follow-ups to ensure compliance. Generates and maintains detailed reports for fire investigations.

Investigates fire-related incidents and coordinates with other agencies, as necessary. Collects and packages evidence; transports evidence to crime laboratories; interviews suspects, witnesses, and victims; attends autopsies for fire-related deaths and testifies in court. Researches, writes, and recommends ordinances and revisions related to fire prevention and life safety.

Investigates nuisance fire alarms, code violation complaints, and burn ordinance complaints. Attends training seminars, conferences, and workshops. Develops and instructs public education courses and activities; coordinates public education with department officers; acts as a liaison between the department and the public on matters related to public education.

Plans for the future of the fire prevention division. Prepares and submits a recommended annual fire prevention division budget. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service when directed.

May serve as the PIO contact for the news media and other public agencies regarding Fire Services activities. Serves as the Incident Safety Officer for large incidents and as directed. Remains on-call and responds to after-hours emergencies as assigned.

May act as the Deputy Fire Chief in his/her absence Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - Associates degree in a related course of study preferred. More than five years of experience required.

Possession of a valid Georgia Class E driver's license. Required Certifications: NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800; EOC/ICS Interface (G191); Basic Life Support and Basic Life Support Instructor; Fire Inspector II, Fire Investigator II, Fire Plan Examiner, Public Safety Educator, Public Information Officer. Preferred Certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations, NPQ Evaluator, Crash Victim Extrication, Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II, Fire Officer III, Emergency Medical Responder or higher.

Required Knowledge - Knowledge of fire services management principles. Knowledge of fire suppression standards, practices, strategies, tactics, and equipment. Knowledge of fire inspection principles and practices.

Knowledge of fire investigation principles and practices. Knowledge of local, state, and federal fire codes, local ordinances, and departmental rules and regulations. Knowledge of the operation of motor vehicles and fire apparatus.

Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge of county geography, streets, buildings, and water supply. Knowledge of first aid principles and practices.

Knowledge of hazardous materials and their proper handling. Knowledge of public safety education practices and deliveries. Knowledge of the National Incident Management System.

Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices. Required Skills - Skill in management and supervision under routine and emergency situations Skill in preparing detailed reports. Skill in teaching and speaking to persons of all age groups.

Physical Demands The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in various settings but may also be performed outdoors and at the scene of emergency incidents.

The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, inclement weather conditions, fire, heat, and toxic gases. The work requires the use of personal protective equipment. Salary & Benefits The Fire Marshal position comes with a minimum annual compensation of $63,876 (Pay Grade 21).

The typical work schedule is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM weekdays plus on-call and after-hours duty.
