SUMMARY

Fire is identified as a significant threat potential for hotels. Each AHC hotel property has fire and Life Safety systems built into the structure. The requirements of design, function, testing and upkeep are dictated by IFC, NFPA, City of Grand Rapids, Zurich (Insurance), Hilton, Marriott and managed properties . Each of them recognizes the importance of a properly working fire alarm, fire containment, fire suppression, and emergency power systems. These are complex and multifaceted systems which prevent loss of life and property during an emergency. They require regular maintenance and consistent oversight for optimal functionality.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Identify, review, and proactively address fire safety/protection risks and trends for compliance with IFC, NFPA, NEC codes as well as applicable OSHA/MIOSHA standards.

• Oversee inspection, testing, and maintenance on fire protection equipment such as Fire Alarm, Suppression Systems, Sprinkler Systems, and more.

• Generate and/or maintain accurate and thorough reports of testing, inspections, repairs, and deficiencies

• Schedule and oversee all contracted testing, maintenance, and repair work.

• Participate with GRFD fire inspections and company insurance onsite risk assessments.

• Assist in the development of fire safety/protection policies, procedures and required training in a coordinated effort to develop skills, knowledge and commitment of all AHC Associates in fire hazard recognition and safe work practices.

• Assist with training, implementation, reviewing, and updating fire safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

• Support departmental managers and supervisors in communicating fire safety culture and striving for continuous improvement. Participate in department leadership meetings bringing fire safety messaging and initiatives to the table for discussion.

• Coordinate and facilitate with departments requesting pyrotechnic permits.

• Facilitate all required hotel fire drills, up to 4 drills per hotel yearly.

• Oversee monthly fire extinguisher checks, annual inspections, and recertifications.

• Audit annual thermographic imaging and 5-year arch flash assessment programs.

• Assist with chemical inventory records and SDS for compliance and hazardous materials reporting requirements to GRFD.

• Review all incoming fire and Life Safety hazards reports daily and actively address areas for improvement.

• Review and oversight for all city fire related permitting and licensing.

• Oversight for the following facility inspection, certification, testing, permitting, and training related areas, to include but not limited to;

• Fire Gates

• Fire doors

• Fire code compliance NFPA 25

• Building codes

• Fire panel

• Fire suppression, sprinklers testing.

• Fire sensors (strobes & smoke detectors)

• Mandated fire drills

• Annual risk assessments

• Facilitate all permitting for events with city, and new build/remodel projects.


QUALIFICATIONS

• Mechanical aptitude

• Familiarity with IFC codes, NFPA codes and MIOSHA fire safety standards

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to operate a computer, tablet and read electronic CAD drawings and blue prints required.

• Ability to explain fire protection and building utility drawings (gas, electric, fire, etc.)

• Must be literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Completion of a minimum of two Associate Level NFPA certification programs within 12 months of hiring or equivalent without a Bachelor’s Degree.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Science, Fire Systems Protection, or another applicable field or

• High school diploma or equivalent required with 3-5 years of prior experience working as a fire alarm and security install / repair technician, a facilities management technician, fire inspection, or other applicable work in fire and Life Safety systems preferred.
