Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding career helping people and fighting fires? Then we have the job for you! Volk Field in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin is hiring a full time Fire/Crash Rescue Specialist. This list may be used to fill future vacancies in the next 6 months.
Fire/Crash Rescue Specialists at Volk Field work a 48-96 schedule averaging 56 hours per week, with occasional overtime.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Base Fire/Crash Rescue Supervisor and/or Base Fire Chief, this position will prevent, control and extinguish all types of fires on the ground and perform related rescue, first aid and property preservation. Includes fires or potential of fires involving buildings, structures, operational processes, grounds, aircraft (including military aircraft), missiles and separate or component weapons or other materials. Perform operations and operator maintenance of all types of firefighting and related rescue vehicles, equipment systems and devices in support of overall base emergency contingency operations. Required to drive and operate various crash, fire, rescue, structural pumper and tank trucks apparatus and all associated equipment. Required to wear personal protective equipment. Scheduled workweek is shift type work and may include 8, 16 or 24-hour coverage, depending on mission requirements as determined by the Fire Chief.
Salary Information
Starting pay is $20.38 per hour (approximately $61,000/year), plus an excellent benefits package. Employees in this classification will also receive a one-time increase of $1.00 per hour after completion of 18 months of employment.
These positions also have Protective Occupation Status within the Wisconsin Retirement System, which is an accelerated retirement benefit.
For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
Conditions of employment:
  • Must be 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of appointment.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a military driver's license.
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment medical physical, drug screen, and physical agility test.
  • Must pass a background check prior to selection.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance investigation after hire.
All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to JFHQ in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications for these positions are:
1. An International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Firefighter 1 Certification OR equivalent certification from a program or organization that is accredited by IFSAC or ProBoard.
AND
2. An IFSAC or Pro Board HazMat Operations Certification OR equivalent certification from a program or organization that is accredited by IFSAC or ProBoard.
