POSITION SUMMARY
This Finishing Operator I position will perform finishing operations according to specifications documented on the job order. Other production tasks will be performed in a timely and efficient manner such as sandblasting and/or operating a tumbler. This is accomplished by maintaining Tecomet’s principles of Safety, Quality, Customer Satisfaction, and Innovations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform finishing operations, including deburring, hand grinding, and polishing, break edges.
  • Perform sand blasting using a blast cabinet to put a finish on parts and become proficient knowing what blasting medium should be used for various operations.
  • Perform required set-ups and operation of the appropriate finishing equipment ensuring correct equipment is utilized to apply proper finish.
  • Acquire Production Approval (PA) when specified on job router or work order.
  • Counts parts before beginning to work on job and when finished before moving on to next operation.
  • Actively participates in 5S daily operator checklist responsibilities.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by production supervisor to meet Company production goals.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Able to read basic blueprints.
  • Accurately use all measuring equipment required to complete job.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
  • Listening, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret quality standards and work orders; ability to communicate clearly with production team on quality issues.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and to report all unsafe activities to supervisor.
  • Able to meet production metrics as required for position.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements per the employee handbook policy.
  • Able to communicate respectfully with other and work in a team environment.
  • Learn and practice daily any/all Lean practices introduced in the area.
  • Participate as a team member when asked for a kaizen event.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION PREFERRED

  • 2+ years’ experience in manufacturing industry preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience with using hand tools such as grinders, polishers, and sand blasters preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience with deburring

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
