Job Summary:

Qualifications:
- Valid State of Illinois License (PEL) registered in Lake County, Illinois (region 34)
- General Administrative endorsement (GADM)- Administrative experience preferred
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred but not required
- Experience in providing curriculum leadership and innovation
- Ability to work toward interdisciplinary instruction with other departments
- Proven ability to mentor new teachers
- Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
- Three to five years of successful teaching experience
- Experience preferred in course pathways, career tech education and internships/apprenticeships
- Experience preferred in creating Perkins & CTE grants

Leadership:
- Provide leadership in the development of shared beliefs and values about student learning and student intellectual development with respect to District 120 Long Range Plan.
- Provide leadership within the department to support and improve student learning based on data analysis and best practices.
- Provide leadership for the development of a learning environment that fosters collaboration, reflection, growth and innovation.
- Act as a role model for the department by demonstrating a commitment to learning and modeling professionalism and respect for others.
- Provide leadership and promote participation in professional development activities related to curriculum and instruction.
- Represent the department at local, state and national conferences.
- Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals/objectives.
- Recognize and celebrate the achievements of staff.
- Teach, as assigned in the department area.
- Monitor curriculum development and the delivery of instruction to ensure alignment with district and state standards and with the professional standards of the professional national associations.
- Lead and assist the development of an assessment system that monitors student learning and analyzes data to improve instruction and to ensure that the school's educational goals are met.
- Work to set and maintain standards of effective teaching.
- Maintain a current knowledge and understanding of best practices for effective instructional and assessment strategies.
- Make recommendations for alternative learning opportunities for students who have difficulty demonstrating success in a tractional high school setting.
- Maintain standards of respect and behavior among department members.
- Model and mentor best practices including training, technology integration, interdisciplinary instruction, and project based instruction.
- Work with the Asst. Superintendent of Teaching and Learning to oversee all areas of student learning, achievement and growth.
- Supervise and evaluate department staff to ensure that the instructional practices in the classroom are consistent with MHS core values, Illinois Goals and Standards, and MHS curriculum objectives.
- Mentor non-tenured teachers to facilitate a success in the initial teaching years.
- Use the evaluation process to improve teaching and learning.
- Develop plans and identify resources for professional growth and the implementation of Best Practices.
- Recruit, screen and interview prospective faculty members and make recommendations for employment.
- Determine teaching assignments for department and assist in the development of the master schedule.
- Work with the guidance department in the monitoring of student registration and course selection, including review of all waivers and level changes requests for department.
- Develop department budgets and monitor equipment and supplies.
- Assist and supervise substitute teachers within the department.
- Screen and interview prospective student teachers.
- Model and mentor communication and positive interpersonal skills within the school and community.
- Provide press releases that promote and celebrate the good work of the department.
- Serve as a communication link between the building administration and department members on a regular basis.
- Facilitate communication and meetings with parents regarding department information and individual student progress.
- Perform such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the principal.
