Job Title: Financial Patient Navigator, Part-Time, 21 hours per week

Department: Client Services

Reports to: VP Patient Support & Education

Work Location: Remote

Compensation Range: $40,000 - $42,000

t is a national nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers anyone who has been diagnosed with breast and gynecologic cancers, and provides outreach to the general public about signs and symptoms. We are a compassionate community of knowledgeable survivors, those living with cancer, and healthcare professionals.


SHARE Cancer Support is seeking a Remote Financial Patient Navigator to help patients navigate the healthcare system and access the care they need. This is a remote position that will be responsible for guiding patients through the financial aspects of their healthcare needs. The Financial Navigator will be responsible for assisting patients in understanding the financial obligations associated with their medical care and providing guidance and resources to enable patients to receive quality cancer care despite their ability to pay.


Responsibilities:

  • Assess the financial concerns of the patient, family and/or caregiver and coordinate with appropriate resources
  • Work with patients to understand options and available resources to mitigate financial obligations related to their medical care
  • Identify and explain the patient’s out-of-pocket costs
  • Identify patient assistance programs and resources that can help with non-treatment-related costs
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of requirements for enrolling patients in: manufacturer, state, and local medication assistance programs; disease-specific assistance grants from non-profit organizations; Medicare prescription benefits; Social Security Low-Income Subsidy (LIS); and any state and federal assistance subsidy
  • Evaluate patients for available assistance including, but not limited to, federal and state subsidies or programs, disease-specific assistance programs, patient assistance programs, and local community resources, Medicare, Medicaid and disability
  • Provide guidance on payment options and financial assistance programs Assist patients with completing financial assistance applications and gathering necessary documentation
  • Act as a liaison between patients and billing departments to resolve billing and insurance issues
  • Educate patients on financial resources and programs available to them Maintain accurate records of patient interactions and financial assistance applications
  • Collaborate with other members of the patient navigation team to ensure patients receive comprehensive support

  • Experience with telehealth and remote patient support tools
  • A strong desire to help others.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, healthcare administration, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in healthcare finance or patient navigation
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing and insurance processes
  • Experience with financial assistance programs and applications

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
