Financial Coach (IDPL) - Career Pathways

COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Instituto del Progreso Latino is a community organization whose mission is to contribute to the fullest development of Latino(a) immigrants and their families through education, training and employment that fosters participation in the changing U.S. society while preserving cultural identity and dignity. Founded in 1977 to help Latino’s learn basic skills, pass the civil service exam and obtain higher paying post office jobs, Instituto has grown to a flourishing educational center serving over 14,000 Chicago families per year.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Dean of Career Pathways and Community Affairs the Financial Coach is responsible for providing Financial Coaching and literacy education to program participants. This includes planning and conducting classes for participants in financial literacy, homeownership, credit, budgets and overall financial planning. In addition, the Financial Coach will provide counseling to participants seeking additional assistance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement financial wellness classes, emphasizing teaching calculations, core financial concepts, teaching and unraveling difficult content.
  • Prepare all workshop material in English and Spanish based on the targeted audience.
  • Prepare monthly reports on all financial services provided.
  • Conduct one-on-one counseling with participants seeking additional assistance.
  • Assist participants in developing an asset-building family plan with monthly follow-ups for a minimum of one year.
  • Assist participants in accessing banking products and making educated financial decisions.
  • Promote financial services products required by programs.
  • Work closely with financial services institutions to schedule appointments and counsel clients seeking home purchase, refinance, car purchase, and other financial services.
  • Enter and maintain data in the Salesforce Database system used by Instituto and LISC to effectively track progress of participants and workshops.
  • Conduct research and work closely with the Dean of Career Pathways to analyze data and continuously improve the quality of the services and the programs that are offered by the department.
  • Cultivate, manage, and expand relationships with clients, leaders, and financial institutions.
  • Develop and maintain required job skills and competencies in financial students and program participants.
  • Produce Salesforce reports records for monthly, quarterly, and yearly performance tracking.
  • Manage multiple database base systems and produce meticulous reports to stay in compliance with the funders and the organization’s guidelines.
  • Record detail-oriented case notes on all individuals assigned to her workload the funders and the institution’s data tracking systems in order to monitor the participants’ progress and successfully complete grant reports.
  • Provide direct services to program participants tailored to each individual served in areas such as economic opportunity, including developing budgets, increasing credit scores, and modifying expenses.
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach activities and events after regular business hours, during weekends, and as needed depending on the increasing needs of the department.
  • Conduct Career Pathways Program orientations on a weekly basis following a rotating schedule with other staff members.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and professional development events after regular business hours.
  • Travel to attend work events is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field to job function preferred, especially business and finance, or three years of experience in banking, homeownership counseling/education, real estate, or residential lending services.
  • 1-2 years of experience in conducting group workshop.
  • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people for different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well on a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Outstanding customer service attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural with an ability to communicate in English and Spanish.
  • Strong telephone skills and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • High level of confidentiality, dependability and punctuality is needed.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to tackle multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and react to unpredictable events effectively.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the internet

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The nature of this work requires the ability to operate standard business office equipment. It also requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile, and prepare work documents, as well as set-up and maintain work files.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of the work performed is in a general office environment. This position requires the availability to work for extended hours. Non-traditional hours may be required to perform these job duties. It also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
