The Financial AidProcessor & Veteran's Certifying Official position exists to ensure that student and family Financial Aid application processing is complete and awarded accurately. This position is also responsible for advising students and families of federal and state Financial Aid programs. In addition, this position advises Veteran students and families on the Veteran's benefits process, as well as ensures all benefits are effectively administered. This position is also responsible for promoting a culture that supports diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms at Hennepin Technical College.
Specific Duties Include:
  • Administer Financial Aid programs to include coordination of Financial Aid application processing to ensure student information is correct, evaluation of materials is complete and accurate and students are provided with timely communication with regards to the status of their application; review and adjust workflows to ensure process efficiency.

  • Serve as one of two Veteran's Certifying Officials for the college. Administer Veteran's benefits and advise Veteran students and families on the Veteran's benefits process.

  • Administer all of the State Aid Programs including MN State Grant, MN Child Care, MN College Work Study, MN GI Bill and the MN Indian Scholarship. Serve as department back up for electronic submissions in the absence of staff or high volume processing times. Serve as backup to federal, state and private loan processing.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)

  • Associate's Degree.

  • Two years of related experience with Financial Aid in an educational setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of people on the phone and in person.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and ability to make appropriate decisions in a timely manner.

  • Excellent attention to detail and data entry skills.

  • Strong understanding of and working ability of computer software systems.

  • Ability to adapt to change and implement new regulations and policies.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Experience working with college work study, MN Child Care, MN GI Bill or MN Indian Scholarship programs at an institution of higher education.

  • One year of experience with MnSCU ISRS system and other electronic systems.
