General Description:
The Financial Aid Analyst will maintain a working knowledge of all areas of Financial Aid and a willingness and ability to continue learning and growing. To know federal and state regulations pertinent to Financial Aid and to work within the boundaries of federal, state, VCCS and NOVA institutional and Financial Aid policies and procedures. Contribute to a positive office/institutional environment by utilizing soft skills and strengths to solve problems and complete tasks. Learn and grow in knowledge and appreciation of other cultures from working side by side with a diverse staff and student body. Effectively focus on problem-solving and task completion in an environment of collegiality.
Duties and Tasks:

• Assist all Northern Virginia Community College students who have applied for Financial Aid, or who wish to, by providing information that will guide each student through the aid process-by in-person consultations on any given campus, as needed, or through electronic means.
• Assist in the detection of Financial Aid fraud.
• Assist in file review and the awarding/adjusting of Financial Aid.
• Coordinate any and assistance with appropriate policies and regulations.
• Analyze student Financial Aid applications in order to render eligibility determinations, which are consistent with institutional, state, federal and private requirements, to make awards, to verify eligibility for disbursement of funds and to review and process Part-time tuition Assistance Grant, Commonwealth Grant, assistant with awarding other manual state and federal funds.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:

• Strong regulatory and application knowledge of Financial Aid programs, policies and procedures.
• Strong customer service skills and abilities.
• Familiarity with computer applications related to Financial Aid as well as student information systems.
• Knowledge of office procedures, various office equipment, and excellent written and oral communication and organization skills.
• Ability to work well with students, staff and other offices for successful resolution to difficult problems.
• Ability to work independently in identifying and addressing students' Financial Aid needs as they relate to Financial Aid application and college processes.
• Knowledge and ability to follow rules, regulations and understand standards established by the college, VCCS, state and federal Financial Aid programs.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines and to manage multiple tasks and demands.
• The ability to investigate records and recognize anomalies, both on the Financial Aid and academic sides.
• Accurate assessment of the circumstances.
• Ability and desire to maintain confidentiality when the situation requires it.
• Ability to establish goals and priorities and make decisions based on program and institutional policies.
• Ability to interpret and explain academic and administrative policies and procedures.
• Familiarity with PC software, particularly Microsoft Office, OpenNet, Scholarnet and PeopleSoft Student Information System
• Familiarity with web-based software and systems, particularly NLSDS, COD, FSA Schools Portal, FAA Access online .
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Flexibility and willingness to learn new systems

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience using Microsoft Suite applications.
• Experience in Financial Aid.
• Experience working in a higher education or college environment.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends particularly during peak registration times.

• Experience working with PeopleSoft SIS or other student information system programs.
• Experience working with on-line education programs.
