Job description

At Selective, we don't just insure uniquely, we employ uniqueness.

Our Business

Selective is a midsized U.S. domestic property and casualty insurance company with a history of strong, consistent financial performance for nearly 100 years. Selective's unique position as both a leading insurance group and an employer of choice is recognized in a wide variety of awards and honors, including listing in Forbes Best Midsize Employers in 2023 and certification as a Great Place to Work® in 2023.

Working at Selective

At Selective, we don't just insure uniquely – we employ uniqueness. Employees are empowered and encouraged to Be Uniquely You by being their true, unique selves and contributing their diverse talents, experiences, and perspectives to our shared success. Together, we are a high-performing team working to serve our customers responsibly by helping to mitigate loss, keep them safe, and restore their lives and businesses after an insured loss occurs. Employees receive comprehensive total rewards packages - including competitive compensation and performance awards, health benefits, and retirement savings - and professional development opportunities and flexible schedules to support their health, wealth, and well-being.

Join our team and help make a difference.

Job Description

  • You may be assigned ad-hoc projects/tasks related to the audit universe, the database of risks, controls, and more.
  • Help complete detailed process flowcharts.
  • Assist with test work for “key” controls over financial reporting in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (“SOX”).
  • Assist on market research, competitive analysis, and strategy projects.
  • Analyze and report on peer financial data.
  • Assist in the Quarterly Earnings Processes, including but not limited to updating the board presentations and the employee finance presentation.
  • Support sustainability work including key projects and external reporting.
  • Financial analysis related to cash forecasting, capital management, and other Treasury functions.
  • Assisting ad hoc projects like documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), updating Business Continuation Plan (BCP) procedures, helping on Continuous Improvement initiatives, etc.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker who can help identify “what can go wrong?” and evaluate management’s activities to prevent and detect those risks.
  • Interest in the Property & Casualty insurance industry.
  • Must be a current college student to qualify.
  • Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
  • Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.

Interns are paid hourly and compensation starts at $19.00 per hour. If you have a desire to understand the facets of corporate communications and how it supports Selective’s reputation, we would love to meet you.
