The Global R&D Functions, Finance Manager will provide financial and strategic leadership to critical R&D organizations including Global Regulatory Affairs, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, and R&D Quality (all three functions in aggregate comprise ~$600MM of R&D investment, and ~2,000 J&J resources). Key activities for this position include, but are not limited to Budgeting, Forecasting (short and long term), Quarterly Close Processes, and Strategic Projects. In this role, you would manage a team of four finance professionals and would be a member of key R&D Leadership teams supporting the global R&D functions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Senior Leadership Team members within respective groups to develop forecasts of R&D investment, headcount, and strategic capital investments.
- Translate long term strategic initiatives into value driving business cases, requiring close partnership with Senior leadership of all R&D global functions
- Strong ability and desire to develop business acumen on future state strategic needs of functions in support of the broader R&D portfolio (e.g., understanding the broader evolution of R&D portfolio over the next 3-5 years and how R&D functions can best optimize support)
- Balance functional investment priorities such as building new capabilities and maintaining critical base business needs; managing trade-off conversations with business partners and driving responsible and prioritized behavior across multiple leadership teams
- This role will be responsible for reporting and analytical support of actual vs. forecast for the respective business groups and provide financial information and insights to the respective leadership teams. Lead the quarterly close process and latest estimates.
- Drive process efficiencies across Global R&D Functions and develop metrics to measure these efficiencies.
- Lead & participate in ad hoc (strategic) projects, process improvement initiatives and special requests.
- Ensure that the principles and elements of the Credo, J&J Business policies, Healthcare Compliance, Regulatory, GAAP, and Sarbanes Oxley are adhered to in all aspects of job responsibilities.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required preferably a major in Accounting or Finance.
- A MBA and/or CPA, CMA, are preferred.
- A minimum of five years of finance or related business experience is required.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or diagnostic industry is preferred.
- The ability to effectively take on leadership roles in various functions is required.
- Candidate must have a strong track record in business partnering and project management, must work well in a dynamic environment and be able to recommend and implement process improvements, work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Candidate must possess excellent analytical (MS Excel) and presentation (PowerPoint), as well as conceptual, communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to think creatively and work in a team environment is required.
- Up to 10% travel required, including some international.

The base pay range for this position is $97,000 - $166,750 USD.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
