JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Finance Accountant to support our day-to-day transactions, including AR/AP and payroll. Finance Assistant responsibilities include, but are not limited to processing payments, maintaining cost reports, assisting with audits and budgets, payroll processing, public agency grant management accounting and inventory tracking.
Mendocino Transit Authority (MTA) has been Mendocino County’s public transportation agency since 1976. MTA is located in beautiful Ukiah, CA. MTA has an annual operating budget of $6.38 million and annual capital budget $2.27 million. The FinanceAccount position is part of an integral team involved all aspects of MTA’s AR/AP, payroll, state and federal grant tracking and reconciling.
THE POSITION
The Finance Accountant acts in the capacity of payroll clerk, processes biweekly payroll in accordance with MTA Policy, proactively reviews and processes accounts payable and accounts receivable to identify any issues and process for payment, research issues, and resolve issues as they arise in an expedient manner.
Understands basic governmental accounting, debit/credit accounting;
Understands polices related to state and federal grant accounting requirements;
Under direction, perform difficult and complex accounting clerical work in connection with the maintenance of financial records and the preparation of financial reports;
Ability to proficiently utilize QuickBooks;
Ability to process bi-weekly payroll utilizing payroll systems such as Paychex/ADP.

A keen attention to detail - able to identify and correct errors;
Demonstrated knowledge of general and governmental accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices;
Ability to work cooperatively with others inside and outside the organization;
Demonstrated proficiency using commonly used spreadsheet programs;
Ability to multitask and manage competing work priorities, time and resources; and
Skill as a clear and effective communicator.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. Ability to lift objects up to to 35 pounds, move boxes, lift coin deposit bags, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Ability to reach and use office machines such as keyboard, fax machines, printers. This position also requires standing for moderate periods of time while performing some of the essential functions.
