What you'll do
We are seeking a Field Service Engineer Technical Lead to support the Viasat Antenna Systems Service and Installation Support Team (ViaAssist). The ViaAssist team is comprised of Technical Support Engineers and Field Support Engineers. In this role, you will provide technical guidance to the ViaAssist team during the sustainment phase of a program's lifecycle responsible for providing technical support for our SatCom, Earth Observation (EO), Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) and Real-Time Earth (RTE) customers around the world for commercial space and military applications. In this role, you will be working with a variety of engineering teams (system architects, electrical design, RF microwave, mechanical, engineering analysis, special test equipment, integration and test). In addition, you will be developing customer relationships and working effectively with functional areas within the company. You will be leading technical discussions across multi-discipline teams across multiple organizations and geographic sites.
The day-to-day
  • Subject Matter Expert regarding M&SS customers, antenna systems and products; work independently to solve complex problems, as well as be able to work together on cross-functional teams
  • Lead matrixed, cross-functional teams to resolve complex problems to support the network of RTE Ground Stations
  • Provide both remote technical assistance and onsite maintenance support to Field Service Engineers (FSEs) to quickly identify resolutions to issues and devising a temporary and/or long-term solution
  • Ongoing development and improvement of the ViaAssist training program and regimen for new and existing Field Service Engineers (FSEs)
  • Cultivate relationships with product development managers to maximize synergies across organizations to improve Antenna System
  • Develop and promote relationships with functional engineering managers to foster an environment of collaboration for remote technical assistance and onsite maintenance support (when required)
  • Collaborate with the Service Program Managers and Technical Service Manager to ensure proper resource assignments for onsite maintenance support and remote technical support (when required)
  • Report opportunities for antenna system upgrades to the respective business areas as leads for opportunities; Identify areas to grow the Service business area

What you'll need
  • 8+ years of relatable work experience in satellite communication or similar engineering field
  • Experience assisting with recruiting, training and developing teams ensuring they have the required skills, training, and tools to complete their taskings
  • Extensive problem-solving skills, and ability to drive resolutions to a close
  • Experience creating and promoting an inclusive and collaborative environment
  • Organization skills to manage multiple cases of varying programs and track progress for several tasks at once
  • Familiarity/use of data analysis tools and automated reporting tools
  • Excellent client-facing (customer engagement) skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal); able to interact with all levels in the organization
  • Open to working on both government and commercial programs
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Ability to obtain a United States Top Secret/ SCI Clearance
  • Travel up to 25%

Salary range
$108,600.00 - $188,800.00 / annually
