Project Details
RTI International is seeking Field Interviewers.Child First was developed 20 years ago and is a comprehensive, home-based, therapeutic intervention that targets children and families with multiple risks and connects them with services they need to support child development. An earlier randomized controlled trial of Child First in one location showed that the program improved children's social-emotional skills and language development, reduced families' involvement with child protective services, and increased families' connections to services and supports.
The Child First Follow-Up Study is a longitudinal study and includes biological parents and caregivers in three sites: Denver, Colorado; Wilmington, North Carolina; and New Haven, Connecticut. Approximately 600 families will be enrolled across the three states over a 24-month period.
The Child First Study is looking for Field Interviewers to conduct computer-assisted telephone or in-person interviews with caregivers located in these three states. We are looking for Field Interviewers to contact and locate sample members who were selected to participate - gain their cooperation, convert refusals, and complete the 40-minute survey. Depending on your state's sample, hours may vary.
Position Description
Field Interviewers are responsible for
  • Traveling frequently to selected locations to recruit study participants
  • Making in-person contact with selected respondents to discuss the study, answer questions, and obtain participation
  • Collecting confidential information and administering standardized questionnaires
  • Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
  • Transmitting data as scheduled
  • Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project-issued equipment
  • Safeguarding any participant incentives, issued equipment, or project materials against damage, loss, or theft
  • Assuming responsibility for and carefully tracking all participant incentives
  • Submitting timely and accurate Time Expense reports
  • Virtually attending scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
  • Calling sample members by telephone to introduce the survey, gain cooperation, convert refusals as necessary.
  • Assisting respondents in completing the survey by telephone or in-person

Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old at time of employment
  • Must possess High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess effective communication skills through speech and listening
  • Fluency in English through reading, writing, and speaking
  • Available for entire training and data collection period
  • Able to successfully complete training
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
  • Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
  • Access to password protected WiFi connection for data transmission and administrative responsibilities
  • Able to keep project information confidential
  • Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark

Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates
  • Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
  • Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
  • Experience locating sample members by telephone or in-person efforts
  • At least one year experience directly or indirectly related to surveying selected sample members by telephone or in-person.
  • Experience gaining cooperation and converting refusals
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred

Work Schedule
  • The data collection period is expected to be February 2024 through December 2025
  • On average, you will be needed part timeapproximately 15 hours per week when work is available
  • On average, you should be available to work in the field 3 days each week
  • The majority of this work is anticipated to be evenings and weekends
  • Each of your trips to the field are expected to be at least 3 hours long

Training Details
Field Interviewers are required to complete trainings which include:
  • Virtual training scheduled for January 2024
  • Successfully pass project required training certifications
  • Successfully complete all RTI required training
  • Attendance at training is mandatory
