JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate field-facing asset data collection applications and initiatives for Southern Company Gas (GAS), to oversee data transfer activities into the Geographic Information System (GIS), as well as other geospatial and data maintenance services. This role provides technical and operational direction with respect to field asset data collection applications that will support Construction Operations, Field Operations, Asset Protection, Environmental, Corrosion, Renewables, and other stakeholders. The assets in scope include over 35K miles of distribution main across three states and the asset records associated to them.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelors in Geography/GIS, Computer Science/Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline, or 4+ years of work experience in GIS database entry and analysis with experience in utility asset design, supporting GIS customers and data quality control/assurance.
4+ years pipeline or local distribution company experience in a field facing role.
Preferred:
Master's Degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
4+ years pipeline or local distribution company experience in a field facing role.
Related Work Experience:
Required:
Thorough understanding of Esri ArcGIS Online, Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcSDE, versioning, and geoprocessing.
Experience with Esri geodatabase design, structure, and management.
Work with existing GIS standards and assist with development and roll-out of new procedures.
Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills and proven problem-solving abilities.
Deployment and support of field GPS and data collection systems including Esri mobile applications.
Hands-on experience with field GIS data collection and knowledge of the operation and use of GPS equipment.
Knowledge of GPS platforms, Ex. Trimble, EOS, etc.
Experience with a content and document management applications with integrations into workflow.
Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan: the ability to obtain within required timeline.
Preferred:
Experience using Esri Data Reviewer and Workflow Manager Extensions.
Experience with a digital construction platform
Knowledge and ability to work with a pipe horn, metal detector, and/or other locating equipment.
Experience converting data between CAD and GIS.
Strong understanding of content and document management applications.
Intermediate experience supporting the development of IT systems and applications related to asset data, asset performance, compliance assurance, and/or operational efficiency.
Intermediate knowledge and experience complying with PHMSA regulations including working knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 192/193/195.
Ability to enhance existing GIS capabilities by seeking opportunities for improvement of existing methods, tools, or workflows.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages, coordinates, and maintains asset data field collection applications.
Ensures data transfers into the GIS are established and functional and supports Asset Data back-office personnel.
Analyzes current business processes and recommends best practice field collection solutions.
Interfaces with Technology Business Strategy and Planning (TBS&P) and the Technology Organization (TO) GIS Support group.
Oversees the operation and maintenance of GPS hardware, software, and equipment; coordinates troubleshooting with vendor and users.
Provides subject matter expertise on GAS geospatial field collection issues (GIS and other technology strategy, process improvements, etc.).
Builds and maintains cohesive working relationships with internal and external customers of field applications.
Serves as Subject Matter Expert on asset data collection requests and assists with requirements definitions.
Performs application testing and documentation of defects.
Completes post processing and editing for GPS collected feature data.
