 FEDERAL WORK STUDY PROGRAM - Horticulture (Landscape Maintenance)

 

This job is a Federal Work Study,non-benefited position in the Engineering, Construction, Manufacturing and Design Division that reports to the Program Director - Horticulture.

 

Salary: $13.50 per hour

 

Hours:  Flexible, depending upon applicant's availability.  Regular operating hours for the Horticulture Program are Monday to Thursday from 8 AM to 6 PM.  Flexible scheduling is allowed for Work Study students.  2/3 of work hours must be completed during the regular operating hours.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, be a currently enrolled student, making satisfactory academic progress, and be eligible to receive Federal Student Aid.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

In addition to the minimum qualifications, must be able to follow directions and complete tasks, but also work independently.  Ability to handle multiple tasks; use proper judgment in directing questions to appropriate staff for assistance.

Job Description Summary:
Under close supervision, provides Landscape Maintenance around the 600 building.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

1.       Duties will include but are not limited to:

-          Weeding, both hand pulling and spraying

-          Mowing, edging and blowing

-          Clean up debris

-          Maintaining the seasonal color beds (watering, mulching, etc.)

-          Assist in the culinary garden

-          Fire ant control

-          Pruning

2.1          Demonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a "can do" approach to work.

                2.4          Accepts direction and feedback from supervisors and follows through appropriately.

2.5          Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected; calls in according to policy when arriving late for work or when absent; observes provisions of Fair Labor Standards Act; observes policies on break and lunch periods; uses work time appropriately.
