Job Description:
The farmhand will be responsible for caring for our Christmas tree farm and its two event venues. This includes tasks such as: landscaping, setting tables/chairs for events, maintenance as needed, and maintaining the overall visual quality of the farm. This position requires a candidate who is able to work independently. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of commercial equipment (backhoe, driving a dump trailer) and handyman skills. The position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to organize work. The ideal candidate will also have strong organizational skills. Must have reliable transportation and live in a reasonable proximity to the farm, be able to work weekends as needed and lift 50+ pounds. Weekly schedule is based around the event schedule (calendar flexibility is required). Typical weekend is Thursday/Friday.
Duties Include:
- Set venues prior to and after event according to weekly setup instructions
- Adjust venue set up as needed for rain plans or guest count changes
- Move trash from events to dump trailer
- Consolidate trash in Barn dump trailer in between events
- Dump runs, as needed (typically bi-weekly)
- Clean and maintain pellet stoves (weekly during cold months)
- Weed wack, spray, aerate, fertilize and edge grass as needed
- Blow venue areas and hill leading to farm as needed
- Clean kegerators bi-weekly
- Check kegerator CO-2 prior to each event
- Clean event chairs as needed
- Wipe down benches and venue areas as needed for bird droppings and dirt
- Keep firepits clean and firewood stocked
- Grade roads and fill potholes
- Clean equipment as needed
- Clean gutters as needed
- Moss off on roofs
- Replace furnace/AC filters
- Put mouse poison in poison boxes
- Put out insect killer
- Clean pellet chimneys/chimney sweep pellet stoves
- Fix/replace items that are broken post-event
- Change any burnt-out light bulbs
- Touch up paint at venues
- Touch up stain at venues
- Pressure wash at venues as needed
- Scrape ground back for septic system pump as needed
- Winterize and de-winterize sprinklers
- Keep farm garage organized
- Setup, work and tear down for our Christmas tree sales season
Experience: 1-2 years of experience in facilities and maintenance related fields preferred; Strong organizational skills; Excellent communication skills; Excellent time management skills
