Family Encouragement Specialist

DEPARTMENT: STRONG FAMILIES PROGRAM

FLSA STATUS: Part-time (Weekend & Evening, on-call supervision)

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a compassionate social worker to establish trusting relationships with families who are experiencing emergency childcare needs. This part-time position is designed to allow families access to on-site and virtual client registrations during evenings and weekends as scheduled. The candidate will also assess clients and gather relevant information to provide crisis intervention and make necessary referrals to other agencies and services. Additionally, this candidate will provide on-site supervision, support, and backup to Therapeutic Childcare staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts client intake registration for families in need of short-term, emergency childcare
  • Assesses client situations, capabilities, and problems to determine what services are required to meet the client’s needs
  • Problem solves with clients to identify the needs
  • Implements a strengths-based and empowering approach to service delivery
  • Serves as liaison between clients and community resources
  • Establishes relationships with individuals and families
  • Develops and maintains a list of available community resources including but not limited to housing, employment, childcare, food, medical, legal, and other community resources.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough client notes
  • Provides, finds, arranges, and refers for support services, which potentially includes substance abuse counseling, job training, prenatal care, and parenting classes to prevent additional crisis from occurring
  • Provides necessary training, support, backup, and direction to therapeutic childcare staff
  • Assist with community outreach, including weekend and evening tours, events, and speaking engagements.
  • Ability to interpret state and federal policies, statutes, and regulations while assuring program goals are met

EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in social service field (counseling, social work, psychology, sociology, etc.) required. Master’s degree in social service field preferred, but would consider Master’s-level student as well.

Direct service experience preferred

PA Act 33 (Child Abuse) / Act 34 (Criminal History) / Federal Criminal History Record (FBI Fingerprint) / National Sex Offender Registry (NSOR)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of young children/families in crisis
  • Relates to children and parents in a positive manner
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with service providers, clients, and coworkers
  • Empathetic with children and parents regarding their crisis
  • Works with families from diverse cultures and ethnic groups
  • Maintains a calm and competent attitude during periods of stress
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills
  • Strong awareness of community programs and resources

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to: Executive Director

Works Closely with Social Workers, Senior Administrative Team, and Center Staff. Must communicate and integrate with day-time strong family team members.
