Form of workYou will serve as a Family Advocacy Program Counselor in the Marine and Family Program Division, Behavioral Health Branch of the MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA.Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing clinical counseling to individuals and groups for the prevention and treatment of family violence; 2) Performing clinical case management to include risk assessment, safety planning, psycho-social assessment, treatment, and referral of child and spouse abuse cases; and 3) Maintaining confidential case files and documentation of evaluation services.
This position has two selective placement factors that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates who do not meet credentialing requirements of Tier II Clinical Counselor as outlined in Marine Corps Order (MCO) 1754.11A. The selective placement factors are:
- 1.) You must possess at least a masters or doctoral degree in a human service and/or mental health professional discipline from an accredited university or college program. Note: A copy of your transcript/degree MUST be submitted with your application materials. Failure to provide the required documents will render you not eligible for consideration.
- 2.) You must have at least 2,000 hours of full time, post masters supervised clinical care experience, AND possess a current state or U.S. territory license in good standing to practice independently in at least one of the following: clinical social worker (LCSW), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed professional counselor (LPC), or clinical psychologist. NOTE: A copy of your certificate MUST be submitted with your resume. Failure to provide the required documents will render you not eligible for consideration.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
- Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or
- Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or
- Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
The following can be substituted in order to meet the specialized experience requirements listed under the Qualifications Section:
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or
- 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.; or
- equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M., if related; or
- a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience.
