The role will be responsible for the following: 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the supervision of the Dean of Math and Sciences and the Department Head of Mathematics, the full-time faculty member has as their chief duty the instruction of freshman and sophomore level mathematics courses.  Mathematics faculty teach classes that are scheduled during the day or evening, taught in a variety of formats (online asynchronous, on-ground, and virtual synchronous) and at several different locations, including off-campus sites and local high schools. The faculty member is expected to facilitate the classroom instructional process, evaluate students, monitor and communicate progress to students and to the appropriate college staff members, utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) and appropriate online educational systems (ALEKS, MyLab Math, OER, etc.), assign mid-term and final grades, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals, work to retain students, maintain required classroom, office, student and Math Center hours, and provide out-of-class academic assistance to students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation 

Serve as a member of the Mathematics Department within the Math and Sciences Division for the Teaching Excellence strategic theme of the College’s Strategic Plan. In this role, the faculty member is responsible for the following: 

Course and Curriculum Development:  

  • Select texts, supplemental documents, supplies, and other learning resources, including Open Educational Resources (OER); develop supplemental instructional materials; use current technology in preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction 
  • Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi  

Professional Growth:  

  • Remain current within the field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies 
  • Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials 
  • Attend scheduled college, divisional, and departmental professional development and in-service activities, and participate in the annual faculty evaluation process 

Service to Students:  

  • Respect the rights of students and access to educational opportunities 
  • Assist in recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of potential students 
  • Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions 
  • Support student activities 

Service to the College and Community:  

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned 
  • Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes 
  • Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organizations, and/or task force groups to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making processes 
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues 
  • Strengthen relationships between the college and the community through community outreach activities 
  • Attend required college, division, and department meetings

Academic Advising 

  • Support Academic Advising Center 
  • Stay current with the relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways 
  • Participate in regular reviews of relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways 
  • Assist with college-wide advising as needed 

Holistic Student Support 

  • Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services 
  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices 
  • Structure student experiences to ensure equity, belongingness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities 
  • Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts 

Fiscal Stewardship 

  • Supports the responsible fiscal stewardship of the funds allocated to the Mathematics  Department within the Math and Sciences Division 

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices 

  • Embraces and promotes the College's goals related to organizational culture and belongingness and supports the Math and Sciences Division’s efforts to utilize best practices to provide equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff 
  • Maintains an office environment that is open, inviting, and professional 

Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

An earned Master’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics from a regionally accredited institution or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics or Statistics. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience teaching Mathematics courses in the department including Learning Support, Introduction to College Math, Statistics, Number Concepts for Teachers, Geometry Concepts for Teachers, College Algebra, Precalculus Algebra, Precalculus Trigonometry, Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Preference for candidates with previous community college teaching experience and experience working with diverse populations.

Projected Salary Range: 

Instructor: $40,502 - $58,718 

Assistant Professor: $44,171 - $65,376
