Position Overview
Performs functions in assigned facilities to affect safe, efficient and dependable service required to meet requirements of plant process, operations and equipment. May be assigned to various phases of Operations and must be acquainted in all phases of department work.
Typical Essential Functions
- Responsible for safe, efficient operation of process equipment and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Handles hazardous including asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), radioactive, and conventional waste materials.
- Collects and interprets routine data, performs surveillances and makes entries in logbooks.
- Performs mathematical calculations relative to the processes.
- Maintains proper controls of chemicals, temperatures, pressures and flows.
- Uses equipment to take samples and run tests and make necessary adjustments.
- Operates control boards, read meters and gauges, performs inspections, makes adjustments and uses hand tools.
- Operates trucks, tractors, forklifts, and overhead and trolley cranes.
- Must function in a rapid and efficient manner and react in various situations to mitigate damage to equipment or environmental incidents while maintaining personal safety.
- Performs decontamination of large and small equipment including field service decontamination.
- Prepare equipment and site areas for remediation.
- Must be relied upon to act and react in various situations in proper manner without direct supervision.
- Following procedures in the operating, maintaining and inspecting of the equipment is of critical importance.
- Responsible for good housekeeping and may be assigned other duties incidental to the work as required by supervision.
- Assists in training of lesser qualified individuals.
- Task specific training will be provided for specified equipment.
- Aligns energy isolation devices and implements the Lock Out / Tag Out procedure in support of maintenance activities.
General Requirements
- Must be included in the temperature extremes monitoring program.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical.
- Comply with site safety requirements.
- Successful completion of the RAD WORKER TRAINLNG: RAD Core Academics, RAD Site Specific, RAD II Practical.
- General manual dexterity, basic math knowledge and mechanical aptitude to operate the gauges, controls and systems of the equipment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Be capable to be respirator certified and wear necessary PPE.
- Must be able to work in hot or unpleasant environments for extended periods of time.
- Reach for and manipulate controls, use hand or power tools, operate gauges and equipment.
- Could be included in the temperature extremes monitoring program.
- Lift and carry objects, materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Pass a pre-employment background and drug-screen examination, as well as periodic random drug screens.
- Prefer to have 30 months of experience in an industrial setting as a plant operator, or have a minimum four years' experience in related work, or a combination of education and/or training/experience that provides an equivalent background.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Clearance.
