Facilities Foreman
Position Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Facilities Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of the buildings and facilities. They perform analyses of operational processes, resource allocation, energy use, safety processes and recommend and implement improvements. The scope of this role will include all facilities functions, including maintaining, upgrading, removing, and installing Fire protection systems, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, overhead cranes, overhead doors, structure, and foundations. The Facilities Engineer will work collaboratively with maintenance and IH personnel and contractors related to the above. This individual should be capable of working independently on small capital projects and the ideal candidate will also learn to write CERs related to facilities.
Position Responsibilities
Responsible for day-to-day reliability of facilities equipment listed above, small capital projects related to the maintenance and upgrading of plant buildings and facilities to include: (90%)

  • Evaluating existing systems and facility infrastructure. Conducting inspections and audits and improving facilities efficiencies. Planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities.
  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities
  • Coordinate and execute periodic fire protection systems inspections and supervise follow up work.
  • Coordinate and execute contractor troubleshooting, repair, and upgrade to fire protection systems.
  • Work with engineering team and external engineers to make facility repairs to roof, building columns, overhead doors, ventilation systems and HVAC.
  • Coordinate and execute roof preventive maintenance inspections and repair.
  • Maintain 5-year facility work plan for roofing, paving, HVAC, etc.
  • Assist EH&S team with PIV, Emergency Eyewash, fall protection equipment inspections and follow up repair.
  • Develop specifications and advise on the purchase of equipment and services related to plant buildings and facilities. Monitors and expedites deliveries as appropriate.
  • Satisfy other permit requirements including local building codes and FM (insurer).
  • Participate in project design review meetings and coordinate with vendors.
  • Prepare installation scope of work, bid and award contracts.
  • Supervise the installation of buildings and structures, mechanical equipment, and mechanical systems- coordinate with plant.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Enforce corporate and construction department safety rules and regulations.
  • Gathers and analyzes data, blueprints and reports. Works with local engineering design companies to updated drawings and maintain as built drawings files.
  • Supports Engineering Manager with follow up and planning as needed.

Responsible for the development of Capital Project Requests to include: (10%)
  • Prepare equipment lists.
  • Solicit quotations for equipment and systems or estimate pricing using recent purchases.
  • Solicit quotations for installation or estimate costs using sound engineering judgment.
  • Review proposed design with plant operations, maintenance, and safety.
  • Prepare overall project estimate, implementation schedule, and Capital Expenditure Request for management review.

To be considered, the candidate will need to demonstrate the ability to perform each and every one of the above task on his/her own with the potential to supervise other engineers, consultants, or vendors performing the same tasks for successful project completions.

Decision Making:
The Facilities Engineer uses professional experience and accepted best practices to oversee the design and installation of equipment and systems in a manner consistent with current plant standards. He or She should also possess the skills required to analyze and evaluate existing equipment and systems and recommend improvements which will enhance overall plant equipment reliability and efficiency.
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required:
  • Five years experience working with and referencing building codes and OSHA standards in relation to project management.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of personal computers including word processing and spreadsheets (Microsoft Word and Excel, Project, Power Point, Outlook, and Internet Explorer).
  • Developed a familiarity with and ability to work in AutoCAD drawing software including the ability to view and print drawings.
  • Preferred experience working with or developing a system to maintain and update accurate as-built drawings.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to relate well and cooperate with others to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence about follow-up.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be able to lead and be a part of cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative, work independently, and perform at a high level with little supervision.
  • Minimal travel may be required.

Education/Experience:
Required:
  • Minimum five years related industrial facilities maintenance experience or BS Degree in Engineering (Facilities, Mechanical, Electrical, or other relevant discipline);
  • Two years Project Management Experience - Demonstrated successful execution including design and specification, purchase, installation.
  • Experience with complex facilities and equipment.
